Avengers: Infinity War – This New Theory Says Doctor Strange Triggered Captain Marvel’s Return

Avengers: Infinity War is going really strong at the Box office, and it has only been a little over the month since it has come out. In this short span of time, Infinity War has broken all the shackles and literally taken down the Box Office. It has grossed over $1.9 Billion worldwide and we are yet to see the last of it. It opened to a monstrous $640 million at the Box office worldwide and within just 8 days it crossed the magic mark of Billion dollars. It’s officially now the highest grossing superhero movie ever.

The movie is huge in scale and scope as it brought in almost 70 characters and still left out some of the big guns like Captain Marvel, for them to shine in the next movie. In many ways, it redefined MCU in particular and comic-book genre in general. The movie was the ultimate comic-book thriller that had us hooked from beginning till the end. It defied the MCU template which is a typical fun-filled, light adventure superhero movie with a weak villain. Infinity War was the exact opposite as it had real stakes, darker tone, and a very strong villain.

Thanos was set up for years as this ‘Darth Vader’ figure of MCU, but the truth is he was 10 times more menacing than Vader. He was perhaps the most terrifying adversary that Avengers had ever faced. He topped MCU’s previous villains such as Loki, Hela, Killmonger etc. in terms of sheer savagery. He was not just the unstoppable cosmic force who just want to destroy because he can, instead he wanted to fulfill his life’s purpose which is to bring balance to the universe.

He believed that he was the only one who is strong-willed and stepping up to the challenge of solving the biggest problems that galaxy is facing. The most prominent among them is overpopulation and scarce resources that have plunged the universe into poverty and squalor. So in order to restore order, half of life in the entire cosmos must be exterminated.

And it’s possible only if he possesses all the Infinity Stones and assemble them in a gauntlet. The only ones standing between him and destruction of half the humanity are Avengers and Guardians.

The resistance against the Mad Titan in the ‘Infinity War’ was led by Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Strange and Captain America on the heroes’ part while Thanos was the big bad in the movie who actually won towards the end. That win was devastating for us but there is still hope as a ploy has been set up by the Sorcerer Supreme against Thanos.

As we saw that Doctor Strange literally witnessed 14,000,605 alternate futures and found one outcome where the Avengers actually came out on top against the Mad Titan.

So, he let Thanos take the Time Stone and spare Tony’s life which ultimately leads to Thanos wiping out half the Universe. But with this ploy, we have reason to believe that the move he played would be of great significance ultimately, and for the Avengers to win, some of them may have to die first, which is what happened.

Since many of the Avengers got disintegrated, there is room for more characters to come in and have significant roles. This will also allow characters like Hawkeye, Ant-Man and Captain Marvel to have big story arcs in the movie since they were totally absent from Infinity War.

Captain Marvel’s return was explicitly teased in the end credits scene. She will have her own solo movie that will come out right before Avenger 4 and that movie would explain why Captain Marvel has been absent all this time and where has she been.

Well, till now we believe that Strange played the move to actually have the Avengers win ultimately, but this new theory by a Reddit user, WamsyTheOneAndOnly suggests that Strange actually did it to bring back Captain Marvel. This theory says that in the future in which the Avengers won, Strange had to set off some Dominoes, which actually means time travel to the past. Here’s what his theory said:

“Doctor strange knows what happens in the future, he sets it up in fact. He knew that Thanos had to snap his fingers at that exact right time and under all these certain conditions for them to win. He’s setting up Captain Marvel’s return to Earth. I believe he’ll appear in the CM movie and tell Fury it is vital for him to carry around with him the pager to contact Captain Marvel.”

The reason for a Hydra agent to be aware of Stephen Strange’s name and why he may be an enemy to Hydra’s agenda could also be explained by this theory. It continues:

“Nick Fury, knowing about Steven Strange lists him as an ally to shield which of course is how Hydra knows about him despite him being a neurosurgeon (anyone who is an ally of SHIELD is a threat to HYDRA).”

This Reddit fanboy also made a valid point upon Fury’s reaction to seeing the civilians and Maria Hill get disintegrated right in front of him, as he was shocked but not really surprised. Strange’s previous warning gave the hint here.

“He warns him of an event in the future referring to the people turning to dust without warning, this is why Fury’s instant reaction to seeing Maria Hill turn to ash was to run to the pager, but what our good friend Sorcerer Supreme didn’t mention was the fact that he does not survive hence the “Mother Fu…” at the very end. We should also take note that the way he says it isn’t panicked or scared, he’s confident that Strange knows what he’s doing.”
