Infinity War – The True Meaning Behind Tony’s Dream In The Movie Will Make You Cry

Tony Stark is a changed man at the beginning of the Infinity War. His usual braggadocio and witty one-liners are kept to a minimum. As events unfold throughout the movie, he undergoes another change. Tony has always been the focal point of the Avengers in general and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in particular. Up until now, fans thought that Tony Stark aka Iron Man could do anything once he puts his mind into it.

Remember he said something in Iron Man 3 – “My armor was never a distraction or a hobby, it was a cocoon, and now I’m a changed man. You can take away my house, all my tricks, and toys, but one thing you can’t take away – I am Iron Man”.

Till now, in the world, where Thanos didn’t exist, he could resolve any crisis at hand with the help of technology. He saved New York when Loki & his Chitauri army invaded the city by carrying a Nuke off his shoulders to the outer space. He built an AI Ultron to provide a security cover to Earth against dangerous threats of tomorrow. He was for Sokovia accords when he realized superhero powers were going unchecked.

But the way the movie showed him as just one man making a futile effort to change the fate of the entire universe came as a shock to many. Tony Stark became more human than ever in the MCU as Infinity War hit the screens. Most fans were left scratching their heads with the characterization of Iron Man in the movie.

When he talks to Pepper about his dream of Pepper being pregnant, most fans could not get the true meaning behind that as well. We are here to help. The True Meaning behind Tony’s dream in the movie will make you cry!!!!

SPOILER ALERT: The Following Paragraphs contain Major Spoilers for Infinity War. Enter at your own risk….

When we see Tony in Infinity War first, he is with Pepper Potts, his longtime love interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tony claims he saw a dream that could be a premonition of sorts for their relationship. Tony theorizes that the dream indicates that Pepper is pregnant, that Tony Stark, the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist is about to be a father soon.

Pepper shakes her head in disagreement and the matter is dropped then and there. Doctor Strange soon opens a portal to Tony Stark’s location and fans forget about this scene altogether.

This is where it gets interesting.

As one might recall, Tony is not someone when you think about ‘family man’. Tony has always been a loner. That is an element of his personality that even Pepper hates and she almost left him because of it. Tony mistrusts everyone and never lets them in into his personal space. Tony likes keeping people at a distance. Want some examples? Sure!!!

In Iron Man (2008), nobody knew about the arc reactor in his chest except Rhodey and Stane. Nobody even knew about the Iron Man suit except Rhodey and Pepper. Tony does not want the world to know he created an endless energy source or a weapon that could end all wars on the planet. Why is that?

In Age of Ultron, Tony created the Ultron A.I which later went rogue and almost destroyed a nation. Why weren’t the other Avengers consulted? If Tony is creating an A.I that is to be Earth’s Global defense system, the least he could do is give the other Avengers a heads up.

In Iron Man 3, Tony reveals he has PTSD. He never talks about it to anyone. The examples are too many to count but the point is – Tony likes to keep things to himself and refuses to open up.

So when Tony explains his dreams to Pepper that he saw their child and asks whether she is pregnant, Tony is not joking around like he always does. Tony is actually undergoing a drastic change. He now believes he is ready to open up. He is ready to open up his arms to another family member. He has been there and done that. He has saved the world plenty and he is ready to move on. And this is where things get really depressing.

Why has Tony suddenly become the Family Man we never thought he could be?? It is because of Peter Parker. Mentoring the young superhero in the ways of the superheroes has turned Tony. He is now already a father figure to Spiderman. For Stark, Peter is no less than a son. He knighted him as an Avenger. Tony thinks he is ready. That could not be farther from the truth.

In Infinity War, Tony witnesses the death of his ‘son’ on Titan as Thanos snaps his fingers. The kid who he came to adore and the one that changed Tony in so many ways, withers away right in front of him, as Tony watches helplessly.

If Tony thought he was ready to be a father before, Spider-man’s death at the end of Infinity War ensured Tony will never be ready to be one.  That dream scene wasn’t just for show folks. They put it in there just to show how much Tony has been emotionally scarred by Spider-man’s death.

The scene struck an emotional chord with the audience and once we left the cinema hall that’s the only death etched in our hearts. There were other superheroes who turned into ash like Dr. Strange, White Wolf, Black Panther, Falcon, Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis etc. But the way Spider-man died will continue to haunt us. His Spider senses were activated and knew something terrible has happened, even before death he started saying “I don’t want to go, Mr. Stark” which literally brought tears to even the most hard asses.

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
