While Marvel is known to keep utmost secrecy before their movies are about to roll, this is taking it to a whole new level. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is already 18 movies strong and everyone knows how secretive the Mouse House and Marvel could be regarding any form of spoiler. Even minor slip-ups are taken too seriously. Last time, Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo, the actors who play Spiderman and the Hulk respectively in the Marvel Cinematic Universe did a bad, bad thing when they accidentally revealed massive spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok. Marvel can shield their secrets for Outsiders but what measures could be taken when the snake is inside your own house? As it turns out, there is one thing you can do.
Avengers: Infinity War is a movie as grand as they come, and to let others from watching it spoiler free, the Studio has taken a drastic and frankly, pretty harsh decision – Marvel is not even allowing the Actors to see the entire movie!
It is taking the meaning of the word ‘secrecy’ to a whole new league. Marvel has already debuted footage from Avengers Infinity War in London sometime ago as a ‘cutting the ribbon’ act for starting off the movie’s much awaited press tour. Three of the movie’s stars – Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston and Tom Holland, who play Doctor Strange, Loki and Spiderman in the MCU respectively, were present during the unveiling of the never before seen footage and they too had a peculiar claim to make. The three British actors collectively agreed when one of them said that this was the first time they themselves had seen the footage as well. Marvel is not even allowing special screenings for his own actors.
“It was pretty hyped. It was wonderful,” Cumberbatch said. “It was the same for us. We haven’t seen hadn’t seen the footage until last night, so we came out as fanned up as the fans. It was really, really excited.”
Tom Hiddleston had an interesting point to add. The one who plays Loki in the MCU and the upcoming Infinity War said that this was just a portion of the movie and the fans would have to wait until April 27th to watch the rest of it.
“None of us have seen the film and we’ll be seeing it at the same time as you guys see it on April the 27th because there’s so much about the film that’s being kept under wraps, being kept secret,” says Hiddleston. “Last night was about 20 minutes and the first time I’ve seen it.”
And it does not just end there. Two of the three actors have not even read the entire script of the movie. The only one who has is Benedict Cumberbatch. Apparently, the rest of the actors (we have to assume it is not just Hiddleston and Holland but the rest of the MCU actors as well barring a few exceptions) were made to enact scenes from half filed scripts handed over to them. How secretive can Marvel get?!?!?!
“I had to sort of understand what the context was,” Cumberbatch told the host. “Strange as this wonderful role in it. I’m trying to hold the multiverse together, so I kind of needed to know what goes on between those brackets.”
If you ask us, Strange is being given such importance over the rest because Marvel has a reason to do so. Since the Infinity War movie will most probably not feature Adam Warlock, someone of equal stature has to fill that role. Warlock is a being of immense power and vast knowledge of the cosmos. Doctor Stephen Strange, with his immense knowledge of the universe and his enormous levels of power, is the next best option for Infinity War. Since the movie will be closely based on Marvel Comics’ Infinity Gauntlet event, it’s better to think on the same lines.
Avengers: Infinity War will release on April 27th, 2018. The official film synopsis reads:
Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.
