The only thing that has worked perfectly for DC Comics and Warner Bros in the DC Extended Universe besides the Wonder Woman movie is the casting of Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight. When the casting happened and it was announced, people did not take it well at all. The internet revolted on Ben Affleck being the next Batman, but what happened was totally the opposite, what people thought would be the worst part of the movie turned out to be the best part of the movie.
People now actually love Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader and would want to see him in the role as long as possible. Affleck has created a fandom just like the guys at Marvel have done, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and others.
But, earlier this year, Ben Affleck announced that he is no longer going to direct The Batman as he had to resolve his personal issues and the movie was becoming too much of a burden. Still, he had worked on the Script for at least 6 months, but all that went in vain Warner Bros. hired Matt Reeves as they had probably made a deal with him to start from scratch.
Recently, we heard it from Reeves as well, that the old Script of Ben Affleck has been thrown out completely and Reeves is going to start fresh with his take on the movie. There has not been any official confirmation given by Affleck till now that whether he is going to star in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, even though Affleck clarified on this year’s Comic-Con that he is “the luckiest guy in the world” to be playing Batman and he would be ready to play an “Ape” if Matt Reeves said so.
And now, there is yet another twist in the tail behind the scenes as Affleck reveals yet another interesting fact about Batman. Even though he has had a year with total ups and downs relating to Batman, he has still revealed that he surely wants to direct a Batman movie even after all this buzz.
The earlier plan was we all know was for Affleck to write direct and star in the solo Batman movie but he later stepped down and Reeves was brought in as a replacement. But now, he revealed in a recent interview that hasn’t given up on directing a Batman flick at some point. Here is what he said.
“For me, it’s interesting, and I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material. I want to direct a Batman movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make [Justice League].”
Some fans might be confused by this statement, but it is safe to say that things are still going to remain the same as Matt Reeves might already have a deal with WB for directing a Batman Trilogy. It is even unclear that for how long Affleck is going to stick with DCEU as Batman. Fans surely want him to stay and here are the reasons why he should not quit being Batman in the DCEU.
1 – Continuity
We have now gotten used to seeing Batfleck and he has been established pretty well in this extended Universe. We have seen so little of him and if he leaves the DCEU now, it would affect the continuity of the DCEU as a new Batman will have to be established yet again which might not please the general audience as well.
2 – He is the best live-action Batman
Batfleck is the closest we have ever seen Batman to the comics in a live action movie. Christian Bale’s Batman was grounded in the reality of the world we live in but Batfleck is a Batman amidst other powerful Superheroes. From his suit & gadgets to his detective work and personality, everything is taken straight out of the comics. So it is no doubt that he has been the best live-action Batman.
3 – He deserves his own solo movie
All the big heroes in the DCEU have got are getting a solo movie and currently, the most appreciated character within the DCEU is surely Batfleck along with Wonder Woman. He is probably the best part about the DCEU as everything has been revolving around his character. We have seen so many Easter Eggs and history about Batfleck that we want to explore more of it for sure and that is why he totally deserves to have his own solo movie.
4 – The Fans want him to stay
Even if many other aspects have been criticised by the fans, they have totally loved Batfleck and want more of him as no one is done with him. So the loyal Batfleck fans deserve to see him become the world’s greatest detective and take down villains of the rich DC comic lore in future solo and team up movies.
5 – Future Bat-Family movies
We know that Jason Todd is the Robin who died in the events pre-BvS and we already know that Dick Grayson exists in the universe since his solo movie has been confirmed to be under works. So we can safely assume that a Bat-family movie would surely come in the future after we see Redhood and there would be no one else we would want to see as Batman other than Ben Affleck in a Bat-Family movie.
