Paramount Has Set Release Date For Terminator 6, Shooting To Begin Next Year

The Terminator franchise is one of the most adrenaline-filled, edgy, and racy of all time. Terminator 1 marked the birth of a major sci-fi franchise which shattered box-office records in the sci-fi genre. Terminator 2 topped the first movie and catapulted Arnold Schwarzenegger to global fame. He was always a great action star but Terminator 2: Judgment Day turned him into a god. He will be returning in T6 and would be de-aged using CGI and visual effects.

Well, the sixth installment of the popular sci-fi franchise was officially greenlit and is set to begin shooting in early March next year. Some of the European locations shortlisted are Budapest, Hungary, Spain etc. It will be produced by legendary James Cameron and directed by none other than Tim Miller.  He was the man behind the most successful film of Ryan Reynolds’ career i.e Deadpool, the global box office collections of the movie surpassed $800 million while the cost of production was less than $60 million.

The Terminator franchise has not been doing well since T2 really, and this time the efforts will be made to restore the original glory. The details of the movie are yet to come out but it will explore the genesis of Arnold traditional T-800 character and the human prototype that T-800 is based on. The new movie will ignore everything that has happened after T2 and will be a direct sequel to the Judgment Day. According to Cameron, all those movies exists in a different timeline and since time-travel component is key, some adjustments can be made which fans will forgive. At this point they just wanna see an amazing Terminator movie. Cameron said that there is a search going on for new characters as old gang will pass on the baton. He said:

“We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story. We still fold time. We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters, but we’ll have Arnold and Linda’s characters to anchor it.”

Cameron further had this to say:

“You got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold?’ There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype. There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from, that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumably was a real person at some point.”

Guess what…it’s not just Camron and Arnold teaming up, it’s now confirmed that the original Sarah Connor played by Linda Hamilton in Terminator (1982) and T2: Judgment Day (1991). At a private event, Cameron announced that Linda Hamilton will be returning to the franchise. THR was in attendance and this is what he said:

“As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return.”

It was Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones) who played her younger version in 2015 box-office dud Terminator: Genesys. But this time the studio someone seasoned and who is better than the original Sarah Connor.

But it doesn’t end there as the news is coming that Robert Patrick who played T-1000 in T2: Judgment Day is absolutely game for reprising his role in the sixth installment. He said that if he is given an opportunity to play a part in T6, he would be more than willing to do it anytime, anywhere. The producer James Cameron has announced that there will be a trilogy of new Terminator franchise so if T-1000 is not being featured in T6, he could certainly be brought for the sequels despite his certain death in Judgment Day. The ball is in Cameron’s court now.

Recently, James Cameron arranged a meeting with Skynet one more time on August 25, 2017, which is 20 years later, but this time it will feel more real. The movie has been re-mastered in 4K 3D format. It originally spent $107 million on those ground-breaking visual effects, but it was a box-office success as it earned over $500 million in worldwide box-office sales, and made a killing on the home-video circuit in the US.

Distrib Films Youtube channel shared a video in which James Cameron is sharing his experiences with his fans. He said:

“The images feel more real in 3D. There’s lucidity to it, you really feel like you’re there.”

He added that it will allow a younger audience to watch this outstanding movie in the best quality available. It will be screened exclusively on AMC theatres. The AMC executive Elizabeth Frank said:

“Terminator 2 has stood the test of time and is hailed by critics as one of the best sci-fi movies in film history. Now, the fully restored version of the classic will take the already extraordinary special effects to a new level.”

Well, we can’t wait for T6 to come onto the big screen. The release date set by the Paramount Pictures is July 26, 2019.
