There are a lot of expectations from the DCEU’s upcoming big budget flick Justice League. Fans have wanted to see their favorite DC heroes unite on the big screen for so long now. Now their dream is finally coming true but the timing of this may not be very good because whatever has happened in the DCEU till now, it has made some circumstances very depressing about the Justice League. Here is a list of 10 most disheartening things about Justice League.
The DCEU is tonally imbalanced
The DCEU started with a very dark tone which made fans criticise that and because of that, all three dark movies earned mixed reviews. Wonder Woman has pretty much cleared the air in that aspect and it has allowed DC to look for a bright future as Justice League has been promised to have a lighter tone. So, this seems pretty weird that the tone of movies will keep on changing which creates an imbalance.
Issues relating to Whedon
Zack Snyder dropped out of the project late in the game following his daughter’s tragic suicide, leaving it to Whedon to shoulder reshoot duties. The incident has cast a somber shadow over Justice League’s production, with the Snyder family forced to navigate incredibly difficult times as the movie’s development continued under new personnel. Whedon working in the DCEU could have been a dream ticket, but instead, it just feels gut-wrenching, though it goes without saying that nobody was at fault over this.
The dose of laughter might fail
Justice League was promised to be light hearted and through the trailers, we have seen The Flash being all goofy and even Batman making one or two jokes in his own way, but the stakes set in the movie are pretty high and the dose of laughter may not actually change the tone of movie, still leaving it to be a dark movie.
Superman died too early
In just 2 movies, Superman met his demise and we did not even get to see a proper happy and inspiring role model that he is. Now almost the entire first half of the movie will not include him and the team will feel pretty vulnerable. The screen time that Superman gets probably might be very less as compared to what we are expecting from the character.
Superman’s resurrection is problematic
There are a lot of rumors about how Superman will make his come back from the dead and most of this rumour have suggested that it will happen by the hands of Steppenwolf and he might turn out to be evil for a while. Well, the problem would be that most of the first half would be devoid of Superman, and when he does a comeback, he will not be the one we love for a while, so the Superman we love and cherish would get very less to do in the movie.
The movie feels totally rushed
In order to get into the game quickly, DC started pulling out its big guns right from the second movie and without giving proper introductions to the characters, a Justice League movie is coming out. Even though fans might be excited about this movie, but still, somewhere this rushed feeling still remains as we do not know much about half the league in the DCEU.
It is mostly based on New 52
The New 52 era was probably the least liked comic book era and the entire DCEU probably is based on it. The roster of the Justice League itself is inspired from New 52 as now we have Cyborg and Aquaman instead of Hawk-girl and Martian Manhunter being included in the main 7. The 7th obviously is Green Lantern.
All those reshoots
Sometimes a studio orders a lorryload of expensive reshoots because they’re sheer perfectionists, but mostly it’s because the project is a car crash in its current form. Reports suggest that segments of Justice League required an extensive retooling from Joss Whedon following Zack Snyder’s departure – and we’re talking overhauls, rather than tweaks here. The studio splurged $25 million on said reshoots, which is a whopping great amount when you consider an average movie requires $10 million’s worth, give or take. Let’s hope whatever is going on, it is good and we get to see a great movie.
Cyborg’s Look
One of the biggest controversies about the movie was and still may be is that Cyborg looks very different and techy. In some interpretations, one of his hands and chest is still present but here the entire body has been replaced and he looks like a freak in the transformer or something. There are many fans who would be ok with it, but still, it could have been a little better and not that different.
The expectations are way too high
Seeing some of the greatest heroes ever to grace the world of comic books unites on screen for the first time is kind of a big deal. They have to get this right or there’ll be six separate fans bases clamoring for blood. After Batman V Superman’s tonal misfire and Suicide Squad’s critical panning, expectations were low enough to make a Zack Snyder-helmed Justice League movie passable, but Diana Prince has changed everything. Snyder is faced with the challenge of marrying two opposing creative visions – his fondness for hero deconstruction and Jenkins’s penchant for relatability, and that may be an impossible task.
