Every Iconic Actor Who Played The Joker, Ranked

The Joker has not only stunned the fans in the comics, but his movies and TV show appearances have been really well acclaimed and have forced the fans to love the character may be even more than Batman himself. Here are all the Joker performances by infamous actors ranked from worst to best.

Cesar Romero – Batman (1966)

This legend actor was the first one to portray the role of The Joker in a live-action movie back in 1966. There was nothing wrong with the way he played the character but as the movie is kinda old, the new generation would not have really loved his performance as the Joker.

Zach Galifianakis – Lego Batman Movie

The kids sure loved the Lego Batman movie that came out this year and it had the clown prince played by an actual comedy veteran- Zach Galifianakis. He played the character very well but his performance was too child oriented as the movie was basically for children.

Jared Leto – Suicide Squad

The actor’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime looked very different and promising in the trailers and it might have been really impactful if we would have got to see more of him in the movie. But as most of his part was cut off, we got to see very little of what he could do as the character. Hopefully that changes in the future movies.

Jack Nicholson – Batman (1989)

The character portrayal by Jack Nicholson was really amazing and he really set the bar very high for the actors to follow. It always seemed like he has a lot more to offer to the character but sadly his character was killed at the end of the movie which resulted in fans not seeing him as the Joker ever again.

Cameron Monaghan – Gotham

‘Gotham’ might not be one of the favorite shows of the viewers but it still manages to bring up a substantial audience mainly because of the actor who portrays the Joker on the show. His performance is very cynical and threatening and actually a total mixture of all the actors who have played the characters.

Mark Hamill – Batman: The Killing Joke

Mark Hamill has played the character the most number of times. His voice as the Joker was featured in Batman the animated series and several Batman Arkham games and we saw the iconic duo of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill return as Batman and The Joker in the movie interpretation of the infamous Graphic Novel Batman: the Killing Joke and their performances were remarkable.

Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight

joker

Late Heath Ledger gave the best performance of his life with his interpretation as the Joker in Nolan’s The Dark Knight. He was the one who really made people fall in love with the character and gave an unmatchable performance for any actor portraying the character.
