Marvel studios began with the Daredevil (a blind lawyer cum vigilante), followed it up with the Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. It has already announced an original Netflix series based on the character of Iron-fist which will be streaming in March 2017. It is a part of series of collaborations between Marvel and Netflix in association with ABC Studios ultimately leading to the Defenders Project i.e a mega crossover of Marvel superheroes who fight in a team to save the world from a greater evil.
Daredevil was played by Charlie Cox who starred in Theory of Everything, Stardust etc. He fights for justice in the day as a lawyer and as a vigilante in the night. The Daredevil series is entirely based in Hell’s Kitchen, NY. Luke Cage was played by Mike Colter who has previously been seen in movies like Million Dollar Baby, Zero Dark Thirty, Men in Black 3 etc. He is a former convict who became involved in a sabotaged experiment that gave him super strength and unbreakable skin. He was struggling to find purpose in his life, but once he had the super-powers, he decided to dedicate his life-fighting crime and injustice. Krysten Ritter (of Breaking Bad fame) played the role of Jessica Jones, a private investigator who opened her firm Alias Investigations, after a tragic end to her brief superhero stint. She is based out of New York city, taking cases involving people with amazing abilities. In Marvel comics, Jessica has a love affair with Luke Cage and ends up having a child with him. We also know that the character of Danny Rand/ Iron-Fist will be portrayed by Finn Jones (of Game of Thrones fame).
It was revealed that actress Sigourney Weaver will be playing the role of Alexandra who is the big villain in the upcoming Defenders TV show. The show-runner Marco Ramirez said to EW “She’s everything: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous.” There is a fan theory that she may be playing Alexandra Dragunov from Marvel comics who has a deep grudge against Ironman.
