X-men director Bryan Singer seems very interested in exploring the idea of a movie in space. Going by the last few sequels, X-Men has been following a trend of exploring each decade since their last recent trilogy’s keeping their storyline more in the 90’s, not forgetting the constant time travelling. Bryan Singer explicitly spoke about the Apocalypse confirming an era of the 90’s but with a twist of adding Aliens.

That was something Simon [Kinberg] and I discussed a long time ago, all the way back to when I first pitched the studio on First Class — that they do each movie in 10-year increments. It’s a nice way for the audience to kind of keep track of the timeline, and it’s fun to play in these different eras. So that’s a good starting point.”

“But we’ve also introduced the tenants of time travel, which already exists in the comic book. Also, I imagine – and this is the first time I’ve actually answered the question this way – but another thing that’s been introduced in the comics is a big alien, interstellar tenant within the X-Men universe that hasn’t been explored. And to me, that might be kind of fun because I’m a huge Star Wars and Star Trek fan, and exploring the X-Men universe and being able to utilize that would be exciting, visually.”

Going by the rumors, the plot would have Jean Grey exposed to extraterrestrial radiation that unlocks her powers to its full potential, transforming her into a psychic which we know as Phoenix. Though Jean tries to fight back these powers by blocking her thoughts but the villain ruses her and enters her mind unleashing the Dark Phoenix. Guessing by it, this movie could be a Dark Phoenix Saga which finally discloses how Phoenix was handed to Professor X in the X-Men: The Last Stand.

Let’s not forget Scott and Havok Summers who have a link to space with their parent’s airplane being abducted by Shi’ar Empire. Hopefully, we would get an insight on an adaptation of their space pirate father and the Starjammers as well. In short, we can see alien Shi’ar Empire enter the fold given their history with the Phoenix being from the comics. Exciting!
