The Batman: Batfleck Reveals His Inspirations For The Movie

The world of DCEU may be known for one thing surprising people. The casting of Ben Affleck for the role of Batman seemed like a big mistake for many DC fans, but the actor surprised everyone by giving what many have deemed as the most accurate to the Batman of the comic. His tenure as Batman has showcased a Batman whom movie audiences have not been accustomed to seeing.

After the announcement of Batman having a solo film in DCEU, expectations grew high. The DC hero had a history of amazing films that may be hard to compete with. Unlike other superheroes, the Dark knight was the hero that changed how popular culture viewed what comic book heroes could become. Ben Affleck has a long way to go to meet audiences expectations, given that the actor is set to write/direct and executive produce the upcoming movie.

In an interview with Variety, Affleck discussed at length about past Batman movies and how they gave him perspective for his own film with DCEU:

“I respect all of those [Batman] movies. Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job. At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”

Affleck had also been quite secretive about when shooting for the movie would take place. The Batman’s Joe Manganiello (who will play Deathstroke) had stated that shooting would start next year. Affleck echoed Manganiello’s statement, indicating that the film will start shooting Spring 2017. Affleck also gave an update about where he was with the film’s script:

“We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together,” Affleck said. “We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”
