Eddie Brock blames Venom for bringing out his darker side but the same could not be said for Cletus Casady. The alien symbiote just amplified the psychopathic nature he embodied. Kasady had a troubled childhood. He tortured his family’s dog for fun and killed his grandmother by pushing her down a flight of stairs. After he became an orphan, he proceeded to cause trouble for the staff in the orphanage and burned the building down. He did this after killing the administrator and the girl who refused to date him.

When Eddie Brock was sent to jail, part of his alien symbiote reproduced itself into a separate entity and found a new host in Brock’s cellmate Cletus Kasady. The symbiote fused into Kasady’s bloodstream, becoming a part of his permanent genetic makeup. Kasady’s already psychotic nature proceeds to be elevated with more super powers.

As the alien symbiote has had time to adapt to Earth’s environment, it  gives its host immense power, that is according to Eddie Brock. Carnage has the ability to heal at a miraculous level, regenerating entire limbs and organs. He has super strength and the ability to form weapons out of the cellular structure of his body.

Marvel writers had intended Eddie Brock and his Venom to be a run of the mill Spider-Man villain whom they intended to kill off. Carnage was to replace him, becoming a darker version of Venom. But as Brock and his character became popular with fans, David Michelinie diverted the story to what we know now. The alien symbiote gives birth to another organism which attaches itself to Brock’s cellmate Cletus Kasady.

Cletus Kasady is a psychopathic murderer even without the alien symbiote Venom running through his veins. With the alien symbiote in him, he becomes the psycho Carnage. He found his basis from another famous psychotic killer-The Joker. Carnage creator Erik Larsen has admitted to modeling the character Cletus Kasady after the homicidal Batman villain.
