Just like sequels and franchises, spin-offs are nothing new to the Hollywood. We have seen many spinoffs so far and most of them were inspired by the original. Even though spinoffs always open a new platform, they mostly project the properties of the original. But is it always necessary for a spinoff to create a mood and feel which the original created? No, not always. We will be travelling once again to the wizard world created by J.K. Rowling through Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and from the trailers, we could say that the film would be much different from what we have seen in the Harry Potter films. The story of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them takes place about 70 years prior to the beginning of Harry Potter’s journey.
Eddie Redmayne, who plays the lead role in the movie, also said that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them would be different from the Harry Potter series as the story takes place in the early 1920s. He said: “The first thing that’s different is it’s set in the 1920s, and it’s set in New York. And it’s this amazing age of the Jazz Age and Prohibition, and there’s a kind of vibrancy to that place at that time. But also there are rumblings of this huge war of good versus evil going on. And this Englishman, this English wizard, arrives in New York, and the beasts getting out sort of sets into motion a whole load of things. There’s that kind of epic J.K. Rowling start of a massive battle thing going on.”
So now it’s clear from Redmayne’s words that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them would definitely possess considerable difference from that of the Harry Potter universe as the Harry Potter story took place (started) in the 1990s in England and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is completely set in the backdrops of New York in the early 1920s. The movie will be showcasing the classic visual elements of the Jazz Age and the battle between the good and the evil.
The movie is directed by David Yates and another star cast of the movie includes Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, and Ezra Miller. The franchise will be having a total of five movies. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will hit the screens on November 18, 2016, and stay tuned with QuirkyByte for the latest and exclusive news about the movie.
