The show-makers of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. announced before the commencement of the season that the popular comic-book character Ghost Rider will appear in season 4. At the San-Diego Comic-Con, a tram was showcased which had a flaming chain, fans perceived it as a cue for Ghost Rider. He was described as “always the most dangerous person in the room.”
Finally, we did see him in the show, the famous actor Gabriel Luna (Tony Bravo in Matador) has been cast to play the role. He is the most recent incarnation of Ghost rider i.e Robbie Reyes instead of Johnny Blaze. He uses his amazing powers to help innocent people. He can literally control the souls of people and distort their realities. He is driving a car on fire and dispensing vigilante justice to criminals. He has the power to teleport himself into the car or even pilot it remotely. It’s a cool automobile which is an interesting addition to show’s armory.
The Marvel fans were concerned as to – How will Ghost Rider really work in this closed-knit universe? One argument was that Marvel needed a game-changer to sell season 4 of the show and this is a brilliant move as in-humans have already been introduced into the show. The character of Robbie Reyes/ Ghost Rider could certainly fill the void created by Lincoln’s death. On the other hand, a section of fans believed that this move reeks of desperation and there is no synergy whatsoever between Ghost Rider and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The latter couldn’t be more wrong as the character of Ghost-rider has blended perfectly into the narrative and is keeping the audience on the edge throughout.
Well, there is now a real possibility of a spin-off show based on Ghost-rider due to the impressive response of the fans. At NYCC, 2016 when Gabriel Luna was asked about the idea of a standalone series on Ghost-rider, he seemed optimistic and thinks that the rumblings of it may have already begun at the Marvel studio. If Punisher can get it’s own series, surely Ghost-rider deserve one. What say you?
