Marvel Studios and Sony announced their collaboration to launch a new Spiderman franchise as Andrew Garfield starring Amazing Spiderman series failed to yield rich dividends to Sony. In the new franchise, the popular actor Tom Holland has been cast as Peter Parker/Spiderman, he has already been introduced in Marvels Captain America Civil War and totally crushed his scenes. He lived up to the mighty expectations of Spiderman fans in an ensemble superhero movie, which encouraged the studio to invest more resources into the first solo adventure of Peter Parker post the massive success of Civil War.
Tom Rothman, the Chairman of Sony Pictures discussed the upcoming superhero movie with the IGN, he said “Here’s the thing I can tell you: We’re really, really fortunate on this because Marvel and Kevin Feige have really embraced the character, and nobody knows it as well as Marvel, It is another crown jewel of Sony’s for sure.”
He said “It’s relevant to the story because it takes place in high school and there is a scene — that I guess I can give a little thing — at a homecoming dance. I’ve actually seen the dailies of it because we already did the high school shooting of it in the first couple weeks. It’s fantastic! But it’s also a homecoming to Marvel. And a homecoming to the cinematic universe that Spider-Man belongs in. So it’s a pretty unprecedented deal between two studios, but we’re really proud of it. And all I can tell you is, those guys at Marvel — I think the technical term is — they know their sh-t.”
He praised Tom Holland in glowing terms and said that his version of Spiderman trumps the previous incarnations of Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield. He embodies the youthfulness of the high-school years of Peter Parker and saves the world from villains too.
He has definitely generated a lot of buzz and goodwill for himself, but I guess we will wait for the movie to open up before we announce our verdict. CHEERS!
