Arrow Season 5: What is Artemis’ agenda?

The season 4 of Arrow was one of the most emotionally charged and heart-breaking in the history of the show. There have been many deaths on the show – Tommy Merlyn (friend of Oliver & Laurel’s lover), Moira Queen (Oliver’s mother), Robert Queen (Oliver’s Father), Thea Queen (who was killed by Ra’s Al Gul and then brought back through Lazarus pit), Sara Lance (who was killed by Thea under the influence, later was brought back by the pit and her soul was restored by John Constantine). But Laurel Lance a.k.a Black Canary died a painful death and ain’t coming back.

In the 19th episode of Season 4 titled “Canary Cry”, the show-makers introduced a new character called Evelyn Sharp (it’s Evelyn Crawford in DC Comics) who donned the mantle of Black Canary in order to take revenge from Damien Darhk and Ruve Darhk for the murder of her family. She was first introduced as part of New 52 series titled “Birds of Prey” as an old friend of Laurel. She is a darker version of Black Canary, closer to comics rather than Laurel who was a lawyer first and vigilante later.

Madison McLaughlin is reprising her role as a troubled teen Evelyn, but this time, she will not impersonate Black Canary instead forge her own identity as a masked archer known as Artemis. Many people are asking why is she playing a different person, according to sources, as a result of the major backlash from Black Canary fans, her scenes in the season finale had to be dropped off. Hence, to compensate her the show-makers decided to lend her a new identity in season 5.  She may even replace Thea in Team Arrow.

In comics, she is the daughter of super-villains Tigress and Sportsmaster and a member of Injustice society. In 2010 the DC animated series “Young Justice” was aired, and she became Green Arrow’s sidekick after Roy Harper left Team Arrow. She became a master archer and even had a relationship with Wally West Kid Flash.

Arrow season 5 will premiere on Oct 5, Wednesdays on the CW network at 8:00 p.m.
