Many fans of Game of Thrones and Arya Stark, in general, are angry with the treatment of her character arc in season 6. She came to Braavos with high hopes that she will learn to become the faceless assassin and avenge the humiliation and harm done to her family, but after a season, she realized that she isn’t cut out for this job, that she is no faceless person but Arya Stark of Winterfell. During her brief stay at House of Black and White, she did get some training from Jaqen H’ghar and she cleared one person off her kill list – Meryn Trant (Kingsguard).
I am a huge fan of Arya Stark myself, but I don’t share the disdain of some of the GOT fans towards D&D. They could have done a better job with her, but having said that the good stuff is actually coming in the finale (hopefully). She is finally going to show her training in action and clear a name off her list. So who’s it going to be?
In the season 6 finale preview, we see Walder Frey raising a toast and said “Freys and Lannisters….send their regards” celebrating their win over the Tullys. If you remember, during the “Red wedding” Roose Bolton said to Robb Stark “Lannisters send their regards”. This clearly indicates that something terrible is about to go down in the Riverlands. The theory is that Arya Stark will make her way to Riverlands and kill Walder Frey. The theme of the season is burning of the old to pave the way for new, as Daenerys put it “We will not be like our fathers and instead leave this world better not worse”.
Tywin Lannister is dead, Blackfish is dead, Balon Greyjoy is dead and it’s time for Walder Frey to join his counterparts. Also, production leaks and her interview with Yahoo have confirmed that Arya Stark will go to Riverlands and clear names off her list. Who could it be if not Walder Frey?
