Dr. Okun Back From The Dead To Save The Day Again?

Independence Day being one of the major hits of 1996, fans all over were hoping to get a sequel of the movie sooner than later. Now that the sequel Independence Day: Resurgence all set to release on 24th June 2016, and the original cast is back in action, fans couldn’t ask for more. Except we would not get to see Will Smith and his fighter plane jamming into the alien ship. On the flip side, one character who did seem pretty much dead would re-appear in the sequel.

You guessed it right! Dr. Brackish Okun, the mad hippie scientist from Area 51 would be back in the sequel to Independence Day: Resurgence. Last he was seen doing an autopsy on a dead alien. Apparently, the dead alien doesn’t seem dead anymore and has taken over Dr. Okun’s mind giving him various instructions for death threats to Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore. We were pretty sure the alien was shot and killed with Okun’s body lying dead on the floor and his pulse checked by a military man. Yet he’s back again alive and kicking.

A small documentary released by Fox shows Dr. Okun being compared to some of the greatest minds like Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, and Albert Einstein. It goes on to show the early life of Dr. Okun in California Institute of Technology, and his contribution to the war of human V aliens in 1996. The video goes on to show Dr. Okun in a coma for 20 after the alien attack.

Okun devoted his life to learning all he could about the alien technology, an understanding that would be instrumental in earth emerging victorious from the War of ’96.” “Tragically, that victory wasn’t without a price as a vicious attack led to critical injuries that placed Okun in a coma, where he’s remained for the last 20 years. Now we hold out hope that this renowned genius isn’t done yet. He’s simply waiting to return. The earth might need a hero once again”, explains the narrator.

While in conversation with Yahoo movies Brent detailed on his character on how he came back from the beyond: “People jumped to that. They always jump to ‘You must be dead’ if you’re lying on the ground. But they’re wrong. I’m back, I’m alive, I couldn’t be happier. I hope everyone else is, but no one more than me.”

To clarify further Brent said, originally the officer who checks Okun pulse says, “he’s dead“, however, director Roland Emmerich opted not to use the line in the final cut, leaving the option open for Spiner to appear in more sequels.

So all that’s left to do is wait and watch how Dr. Okun saves the day this time round. Independence Day: Resurgence starring Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, William Fichtner, Brent Spiner, Sela Ward, Judd Hirsch, and Maika Monroe.
