Marvel studios began with the Daredevil, followed it up with the Jessica Jones and then announced an original Netflix series based on the character of Luke Cage. He will be played by Mike Colter who has previously been seen in movies like Million Dollar Baby, Zero Dark Thirty, Men in Black 3 etc. It is a part of series of collaborations between Marvel and Netflix in association with ABC Studios ultimately leading to the “Defenders Project” i.e a mega crossover of Marvel superheroes who fight in a team to save the world from a greater evil.
Luke Cage is a former convict who became involved in a sabotaged experiment that gave him super strength and unbreakable skin. He was struggling to find purpose in his life, but once he had the super-powers, he decided to dedicate his life fighting crime and injustice. The Daredevil series is entirely based in Hell’s Kitchen while Luke Cage will be hitting major spots all around Manhattan with Harlem being the epicenter. Till now we know that they may be doing shady characters including Cottonmouth, Shades, Misty Knight, Mariah Dillard (a powerful woman in Harlem local politics). We also know that the character of Danny Rand will be portrayed by Finn Jones (of Game of Thrones fame).
In Marvel comics, Jessica Jones is shown to have a love affair with Luke Cage and ends up having a child with him. In the Jessica Jones Netflix series, Luke is shown to be a normal person without superpowers as he is hiding it from Jessica. It would be better for fans to see Daredevil both seasons, Jessica Jones first season before they sit with popcorn to see the mighty Luke Cage.
The show is set to premiere on Netflix on September 30, 2016.
