After a successful run for two seasons, there is much anticipation and excitement in the Marvel fan community for season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The cast and crew of the show has begun shooting for the next installment which is going to be aired on September 29, 2015 on ABC. The last season ended with S.H.I.E.L.D fighting against Jiaying & her Inhumans forces as she killed agency’s senior official Robert Gonzales when he infact wanted peace with her.
The show-runners have confirmed that season 3 will be based on popular comic series “Secret Warriors” and Inhuman Lash. The Secret Warriors comicbook storyline has Nick Fury left, right & centre, but the TV show would like the story to revolve around Phil Coulson. The reason why Nick Fury assembled secret warriors was to take on Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers. He co-opted S.H.I.E.L.D and Avengers when he was given the charge of entire American Superhuman machine post Skrull invasion. In the season 3, Coulson will search for more super-powered people across the world to combat extraneous threats, right now he has Skye and Lincoln on his side. In the last scene, Simmons was sucked in by Black Obelisk, could she acquire superhuman abilities and become a secret warrior? The so called crossover of Avengers 2: Age of Ultron and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Season 2 was barely a crossover, this time there is a real opportunity of pushing the narrative forward through the events of season 3, having a far greater impact on Marvel’s Civil War ensemble movie.
Another major thing which is confirmed for season 3 is that Agent Ward will be the next big bad. He is in the process of assembling a new team of warriors which may include super-powered people. The most interesting part will be to see who all are going to be part of Coulson’s Secret warrior team. Can Deathlok be part of it? I guess we will know soon.
