Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Did Snoke Unknowingly Train Rey To Become A Jedi?!?!?!?

One of the many things that irked and jerked the minds of the Star Wars fanbase was the unnatural connection between Rey and Kylo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Using a strange connection via the Force, Rey and Kylo could sense each other’s emotions and sense their activities, even what the other’s intentions were. That was something that they could achieve no matter how distant they were from each other, physically and emotionally. Kylo Ren was deemed irredeemable by his own mentor and his own mother. But Rey could sense that there was still some light within him. She could do that when no one else possibly could. It was later found out that the connection established between the two was the machinations of Supreme Leader Snoke, the First Order leader who used Kylo’s vulnerable psyche to bait Rey into an ambush. So did Snoke unwittingly train Rey into becoming a soldier of his greatest enemy?

But that proved to be Supreme Leader Snoke’s Doom. The Force Bond between Kylo and Rey became so strong that Kylo was led to question his own long held beliefs in the Dark Side of the Force. Kylo’s only wish was to become more like his grandfather Darth Vader. He wanted to become a Sith for all his life. That wish was shattered once the Force Bond between Kylo and Ren showed him a different truth. At the end, Snoke was killed by his own apprentice, due to the Force Bond (which was originally designed to rake down Rey) changing Kylo from the inside. But in the Last Jedi Novelization, it is shown that the Force Bond created by Snoke not only helped Kylo have a change of heart but also helped Rey in achieving mastery of the Force.

The Connection ran way stronger than anything Snoke had designed it to be:

In the Novelization, it is revealed that the first time Rey had a Force Vision of Kylo Ren via the Force Bond, it left her reeling and unbalanced. Rey was quick to realize the Force Bond between her and Kylo had fundamentally changed her.

Kylo had retreated at finding Rey in his head – had practically fled from her. But that had not been the end of that strange, sudden connection. She had seen more – far more. Somehow, almost instinctually, she knew how he accessed some of the powers at his command – even though she didn’t understand them. It was as if his training had become hers, unlocking and flinging open door after door in her mind.

So the Bottom Line is – Kylo had trained for multiple years to become a Force Veteran. When Snoke established the Force Bond between the two, Rey was unwittingly exposed to those years of experience Kylo had to go through. Rey’s minds were opened up to a world of possibilities as she instinctively learnt all the knowledge that took Kylo Ren years to master. That would explain why rey was so good at Lightsaber skills while fighting Kylo Ren and the Praetorian Guards in the Throne Room. Snoke had given her a mighty mind boost.

A little Knowledge is a dangerous thing:

Do you think Snoke trained Kylo all these years to become a Jedi? Kylo was taught the ways of the Dark Side. So that would mean what Rey got from Kylo’s mind was techniques that would make her an adept dark side warrior of the Force. Rey is also not yet capable enough to discern which abilities are good for her and which will burn her out or convert her to the Dark Side. She was a loose cannon right then.

Then the miracle happened. The Throne Room battle saw Rey realizing that her destiny was not with the Dark Side but with the Light Side of the Force:

She couldn’t direct the Force well enough to last long against three elite warriors in lightsaber-resistant armor. But she could let it direct her, allow it to make her its instrument.

The very second she realized that, she became a Jedi. The Sith and the Jedi have a fundamental difference – The Sith aim to control the Force while the Jedi strive to let the Force guide them. With his dying breath, Snoke had unwittingly committed his biggest failure.
