Avengers Infinity War: Kevin Feige Reveals Thanos’ Backstory in the MCU

Avengers Infinity War is just 48 days away, and we can’t get our brains around the fact that this will be the first time for Thanos to really make his presence feel in an MCU movie. All the heroes that we know are going to assemble against The Mad Titan. As we all know, this is the first movie ever to gather so many Hollywood A-Listers at once and all of them will be characters of great relevance to the story.

Avengers: Infinity War

But the most interesting and important character this time will be none other than Thanos, the big bad of this movie. Marvel has been building him up ever since the first Avengers movie came out, and till now we have only seen 3 scenes in total where Thanos had an appearance. Hell, we have seen more of Thanos in the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer than in the entire MCU. Now the moment has finally arrived, where all this build up will be put to use.

10 years into the MCU, and most fans who are not familiar with comic book stuff still don’t know who Thanos is or what his backstory is. Well, an official character bio was released a couple of days ago, and that showed Thanos as the warlord, who is coming to save the entire Universe from itself. Here’s what the Bio reads:

“The Avengers are brought face to face with the cunning, intelligent, and fierce warlord, Thanos, a ruthless cosmic threat consumed with saving the universe from itself. To stop him, the Avengers must join forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man to bring down this villain who will stop at nothing to collect the six Infinity Stones.”

Now, the president of Marvel, Kevin Fiege himself has come out and revealed the official backstory for Thanos in the MCU. Here’s what he said:

“He’s from a planet called Titan that’s no longer inhabited because of things that he thought he could help prevent, and he was not allowed to do that. What he feared most happened, and the planet and everybody on it basically went extinct. He vowed not to let that happen again. He thinks he sees the universe going down the tubes. He thinks he sees life expanding outward unchecked. That will bring ruin, he believes, to the universe and to that life.”

Along with Feige, the directors of the movie, The Russo Brothers told us what kind of movie Infinity War is, specifically calling it a sort of heist movie since Thanos is going to come for the Infinity Stones. They also focused on how they have fitted Thanos’ narrative into this story. Here’s what they said:

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.

Thanos is going to be the new Darth Vader of this era, and a lot of fans will be disappointed if all this build up doesn’t come to an epic conclusion, proving Thanos to be the biggest and the baddest villain we have ever seen. Let’s just hope for the best.
