Captain America: Civil War kicked off MCU’s Phase 3 in the beginning of the year and left an impression at the box office. The Marvel feature was a critical and commercial success that seemed to embody all the classic Marvel movie traits- good storyline, great action sequences and a clash that had great consequence. The movie was very much a spy thriller that entertained fans, who deemed it one of 2016 better movies. But it made one grave mistake that may influence Avengers: Infinity War. 
Mark Millar, who penned the original Civil War comic book seemed unimpressed by the movie adaptation of his creation. While listing off his best of 2016 list, Millar had a criticism about MCU’s Civil War that placed the film on his dislike list. Millar said:
“Civil War had a good opening twenty mins, but then I honestly can’t remember what the movie was about. It’s interesting the Russos have a background in comedy because it’s really missing in these otherwise well-made pictures and very, very missed. I really hope this bleakness doesn’t extend into their two Avengers pictures because what made that first Avengers work was the light as well as shade and I’ll be sad if that’s all lost like it was in this picture.”
Marvel Cinematic Universe has been known to mix in a good dose of humor into their films. And like Millar said, filmmaker Joss Whedon had added humor into the last two Avengers films that made the chemistry between the cast work due to their verbal sparring. Marvel comics have also been known to add a witty quip or two into the harshest of circumstances, making readers find the humorous side in an otherwise dire situation.
Marvel’s Civil War did have some humor but it concentrated on the plight being faced by the Avengers due to the political influence. Even Tony Stark, often seen as a comedic relief for most films did not have too much time to bring a bit of lightness to the film due to his own struggle. The Russo brothers would hopefully take in Millar’s criticism and maybe add some funny lines for the sake of the team.
