How Wenwu Could Return In Shang-Chi 2

We are very proud of what the MCU has become. We may criticize it more times than we can count but it is because we love our cinematic universe. The latest entry in the MCU is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and this solid entry has given us one of the most compelling villains in MCU history. When we got Trevor Slattery for Iron Man 3 we never thought that The Mandarin would be redeemed in such a beautiful fashion. Xu Wenwu of the MCU is one of the most beautifully complex characters we have ever seen grace the screen in an MCU movie. He was also exceptionally short-lived despite an endearing performance by Tony Leung. Here is a theory of how Wenwu could return in Shang-Chi 2.

Spoiler Warning for those who haven’t seen the film yet. Go watch it, people. What are you doing really?? It’s great. Go and have a good time. The Rest of you, follow my lead and scroll!

The MCU has reached heights unprecedented. It has risen to prominence amidst a time when Marvel was struggling to make ends meet. Stan Lee was happy about it, we miss you Stan the Man. But the latest entry in the franchise shows that even without MCU’s headliners, it can still hold its own with any new character. Ironically enough, the Mandarin is supposed to be an ironman villain. To see him come to light only when ironman has sacrificed himself is a bit redundant. Yet still, Tony Leung gave us a Wenwu that we will remember for a long time and if this theory is to be believed then we won’t have to miss him for long. Let’s talk about how Wenwu could return in Shang-Chi 2.

How Wenwu Could Return In Shang-Chi 2

There are a couple of theories floating online about the possibility of Wenwu’s return for the sequel. Much of it is because of Tony Leung’s acting prowess and perfect portrayal of a very complex character. People want to see more of him, they want to see more of Wenwu. Well, if the theories and some comic lore are to be believed it is completely possible that Wenwu will come back in Shang-Chi 2. At the end of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, we get a mid-credits scene establishing the fact that the rings are very old technology and there is something inside them acting as a beacon. It remains unknown what the beacon is transmitting to but we have a fair idea.

You see, in the comics, the Rings come from the spaceship of Axonn-Karr, an explorer of Makluan descent. This explorer was using the Ten Rings as a power source for his ship. But when the ship landed on Earth, the people of Valley of Spirits attacked the aliens and Mandarin swooped in to swipe the rings. The rings house the conscience of 10 different ancient warriors who had different personalities and powers. These beings are imperative to the storyline because they define the origin of the rings. Hence it is possible that we will see the origin of the rings being explored ergo how Tony Leung got them and this will allow him to return for a flashback scene in Shang-Chi 2.

The Game of Consciousness

The Ten Rings are said to be a powerful technology that can hold the entire consciousness of people in themselves. This makes the rings incredibly useful and also amazingly bizarre. It has never been made clear how this ability works, it is more pushed on the reader as an axiom than anything else. Regardless, we have come to a point where this ability may come in handy. Because the rings not only house the consciousness of the ancient warriors they have also know to house the consciousness of the Mandarin himself. This only happened after The Mandarin used them for an extended period and imprinted themselves on the rings. This made it so that he could control the rings from anywhere in the world and no one child uses them except him.

We think that a similar thing would happen in the MCU, where it will he found out that Wenwu transferred his consciousness into the Rings before giving them to Shang-Chi rather than losing it to the Dark Dweller. It would make a lot of sense, canonically speaking, and also allow us to see more of Tony Leung, which is always nice. What do you think of this theory? Does it make sense?
