The Eternals Will Probably Introduce the 7th Infinity Stone in the MCU
Marvel’s The Eternals is under development, and we’re soon going to get a bazillion updates upon it. Marvel Studios is coming to Comic-Con, and they’re gonna announce the next slate of upcoming MCU films including Black Widow and The Eternals. Since Marvel is going to be there at SDCC for 2 whole hours we can expect both Black Widow & Eternals to get separate panels. The attendees may even get some exclusive footage for Black Widow since the film has been shooting.
But Kevin Feige and co have actually been making a big deal out of The Eternals. The film seems to have a rich cast involved as Richard Madden has been cast as Ikaris, Angelina Jolie is gonna play Sersi that’s not from Game of Thrones, and then there are other actors including Kumail Nanjiani, Ma-Dong Seok & Salma Hayek. These actors together will give us a tour of the rich history of MCU 1000s of years ago.
There are going to be some great references and connection the present films. We could see connections to Thanos, Odin, and certain other characters. We could perhaps get a connection for the Infinity Stones as well. Talking about those gems, we’ve seen all 6 of them. But we haven’t seen the seventh one.
Yes, there is a seventh Infinity Stone in the comics called the Ego Stone. Screen Rant has come up with the theory which suggests that we’d be seeing the Ego Stone next year in The Eternals as it has close connections to Sersi. In a storyline, the Avengers fought a team called the Ultraforce while Loki & the Grandmaster tried to collect all the Infinity Stones for themselves. But there was a seventh Infinity Stone in the Ultraverse which took over Sersi.
Angelina Jolie will supposedly be playing Sersi, and if that does become a reality, then we can expect this character to have a major role in the film. That major role could easily involve the Ego Stone with so many storytelling possibilities. It would be interesting to see the group that Marvel gets together for this film along with the other elements involved.
Kevin Feige described the Eternals to go around having a similar tone as the Guardians of the Galaxy. He said:
“You’re reaction about not being familiar with the Eternals is perfect, because most people weren’t familiar with Guardians [of the Galaxy] and believe it or not there were people that were not familiar with Avengers or with Iron Man. So for us, its finding great stories whether people have heard of them or not and bring them to the big screen in as amazing a way as we can.”
Another major factor that’s gonna come into play with the Eternals is the extension of diversity by involving a hero from the LGBTQ background. Here’s what Feige had to say when asked about a gay lead in the film:
“Well it’s accurate in that we’ve talked about [it for] a long time. You look at the success of Captain Marvel and Black Panther. We want the movies to reflect the audience and we want every member of our global audience to see themselves reflected on the screen. And that’s what we’ve been doing for a long time. And certainly, that’s what we’re focusing on going forward.”
Directed by Chloe Zhao, and from a script written by brothers Matthew and Ryan Firpo, The Eternals will supposedly come out on November 6, 2020. Here’s the synopsis running around the internet:
“The story of ‘THE ETERNALS’ is set millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered individuals as well as more villainous off-shoots known as Deviants. The two groups went on to battle each other throughout history to see which would eventually become the ultimate race. The story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.”
