Ant-Man 3 Box Office Performance Marks Second-Lowest in MCU History

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania started off strong, setting a new domestic box office record for the trilogy with a $105 million opening weekend. However, the film has since struggled to maintain its momentum, with its first Thursday box office gross being the second-worst in MCU history at $3.78 million. This drop in revenue has led some to question whether the film is starting to struggle at the box office. Let’s check out Ant-Man 3 box office performance:

Despite being highly anticipated by fans for the debut of Kang, the film received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences alike. This mixed reception likely contributed to its poor Thursday box office performance, as well as its potential for a significant drop in box office revenue in its second weekend. Quantumania’s poor Thursday box office gross puts it just behind Thor: The Dark World for the lowest first Thursday in MCU history. This raises concerns about the film’s ability to maintain its box office success and avoid a significant drop in revenue in its second weekend.

It is worth noting that previous MCU films, such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, experienced similar drops in box office revenue in their second weekends after receiving mixed reactions in their opening weekends. With Ant-Man 3 also generating divisive reactions, there is a high likelihood of another massive drop. Despite the film’s struggles at the domestic box office, there is still hope for its success globally. Quantumania was released in China simultaneously with its worldwide release, which may help offset its domestic struggles. Ant-Man and the Wasp also found success in China with a $121.2 million gross in 2019.

The bad press and lowered excitement surrounding Ant-Man 3 may have left some holding out for the Disney+ release. If Quantumania does go on to struggle in its second weekend and subsequent weeks, the possibility of a Disney+ release may come sooner than expected. In conclusion, while this MCU movie started off strong, its poor Thursday box office performance raises concerns about its ability to maintain its momentum and avoid a significant drop in box office revenue in its second weekend. However, the film still has the potential for success globally, and a Disney+ release may be an option if its struggles continue
