How Did T’Challa Die in Black Panther 2?
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the MCU movie everyone eagerly waits for! After watching the highly emotional trailer that was released at San Diego Comic Con, People were reminded of Chadwick Boseman’s tragic demise once again. He owned the character of T’Challa in every way. So in his honor, Marvel decided they wouldn’t recast T’Challa in the MCU. And the new trailer hinted that Wakanda Forever would kill off King T’Challa instead of recreating him through CGI. But how did T’Challa die in Black Panther 2?
The film’s synopsis confirmed that the Wakandans would team up to defend their nation in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. So, we reckon we’ll be getting his funeral in the first act. But witnessing the Wakandans holding a special farewell ceremony for him, we’ve all been left wondering how exactly did T’Challa die? Marvel has kept that a big secret, and they probably won’t reveal it until the movie comes out. But I’ve got a theory answering the question.
Wakanda Forever will be the third time the Wakandans will have lost King T’Challa. First, it happened in Black Panther 1, where Killmonger threw him off a cliff into a waterfall. Everyone thought that he had died, but M’Baku and the Jabbari saved him. And he made his triumphant return to take his throne back. Then in Infinity War, he was among the unlucky ones who perished because of Thanos. For five years, Wakanda was then ruled by his mother, Ramonda. And then Hulk brought him back in Endgame. From there on, straightaway led Wakanda into yet another battle.
And after winning the Endgame battle, he ruled Wakanda once again. But it seems that a couple of years after ruling Wakanda, T’Challa will die for good. And sadly, he won’t be coming back this time. But how will that happen? Could he die of disease? I guess the heart-shaped herb prevents him from any fatal diseases. So, it can’t be that. Because the Wakandans were all coming together to say their goodbyes to their beloved King, it does seem that T’Challa would sacrifice himself to save the nation yet again. He might have died a heroic death.
Because Namor is the antagonist in this movie, he or someone from his underwater nation, Tlalocan, could be responsible for T’Challa’s death. Actor Tenoch Huerta revealed that his character Namor deeply admires T’Challa. But if he is the one who kills the Wakandan King, then he’d become irredeemable in the MCU. So maybe he isn’t the one who kills T’Challa. But he could have witnessed T’Challa’s sacrifice happen right before his eyes. And he may have been indirectly responsible for that too. That way, things could become personal for the Wakandans in this story. So they’d all come to unite in King T’Challa’s name to take on his killers.
But rumors have suggested that Doctor Doom will be revealed as the true manipulator in this movie. So, there’s also a chance that he is the one who would be genuinely responsible for T’Challa’s death. That would establish him as a true MCU villain whose threat cannot be ignored. And at the same time, he would be hated by all for getting T’Challa killed. So, it might be a great move to make Doctor Doom responsible for T’Challa’s demise. I would hate it if the movie just starts by revealing that Black Panther is dead without telling us how that happened.
In recent times, Marvel has left many things unexplained. For instance, they did not tell us how Thor suddenly had a blue eye instead of a fake brown one in Love and Thunder. Or how Doctor Strange got a second eye of Agamotto. T’Challa’s demise should not be another one of those situations. But I trust Ryan Coogler. And I’m sure he is going to do right by T’Challa. It would be interesting to see which other MCU characters would appear at his funeral. I think Bucky should be there. But I guess we’ll see about that.
