Credence in Fantastic Beasts 3

There were a lot of things that the Fantastic Beasts movie tried to work into the arc of the character of Credence. While the first movie revealed that he was possessed by the Obscurus and thus became an Obscurial. Grindelwald was looking after Credence as a means of taking a chance at killing Dumbledore with those powers. Credence managed to join Grindelwald’s army. A major revelation was made in Crimes of Grindelwald when it was stated by the dark lord that Credence is actually related to Dumbledore.

The Secrets of Dumbledore managed to reveal that he indeed was Aurelius Dumbledore, Aberforth’s long-lost son. It was also hinted that he doesn’t really have long to live because of the Obscurus curse. This was always known to be an essential part of the series of the movies considering this entry was going to focus more on Dumbledore than the past entries. Here we also got to get some interesting insight into both Dumbledore and Grindelwald while at the same time keeping the focus on the modern times as Dumbledore and his team of wizards tried to put down the reign of terror from Grindelwald.

Credence

According to the movies, Obscurus is a parasitic curse that acts as the manifestation of repressed magic in wizards when they are young. Grindelwald was able to realize that Credence must be related to Dumbledore when he linked the case with Ariana’s. Ariana had repressed magic all her life after being attacked by a couple of Muggle kids for being a witch. She ended up dying at the age of 14 due to the three-way duel that took place between Alberforth, Albus, and Grindelwald. Surprisingly Credence is the only case where a young adult managed to survive the Obscurus.

Dumbledore had to convince Aberforth regarding the death that Credence was actually heading for. Later in the narrative, Albus uses an ashy phoenix feather to show that the phoenix behaved the same way around her as it did with Ariana. When they were both heading for Bhutan, Aberforth asked Albus, “How long does he have?” and Albus doesn’t reply to it. But earlier in the movies we had clearly heard him state that Credence couldn’t be saved, “but he may yet be able to save us.

Harry Potter Prequel Series

Credence managed to save Newt and his team when he revealed Grindelwald’s lies to the people who were manipulated into voting for him. But this was done with the last bit of strength he had in him and he collapsed to the Obscurus curse. When Aberforth discovered him and took him to the temple in Bhutan, Credence was pale and weak and hardly had any life in him. It might not be surprising to see him making a return now that he is under the care of two of the greatest wizards we are aware of. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is now playing in theatres worldwide.
