Denis Villeneuve proved that Dune could be adapted with his brilliant take on the narrative. While the first film only managed to show us some details of the world it was building, the second film will give us a lot more than we can imagine. The movie had a stellar cast that included some of the greatest names that we have heard in showbiz. Fans were excited to see who will be the next big name attached to the sequel in order to be introduced in the sequel. Dune 2 adds Florence Pugh! The Black Widow star will play a mystery role in Villeneuve’s sequel.
Dune
Dune was one of 2021’s biggest hits both commercially and critically. One of the major reasons this worked out was because the narrative was divided into two parts. Fans got to witness a brilliant narrative with some of the best stars associated with the project. The movie introduced us to the worlds that exist in Dune and this was done in a rather brilliant format. Some fans of the 1965 sci-fi epic novel were disappointed that the movie didn’t have much action. But things will take a whole new turn as the second film introduce us to some of the greatest moments in the narrative.
Dune 2 Adds Florence Pugh
The Hollywood Reporter shared the news that Florence Pugh is in talks to join Dune: Part 2. She will be taking on the role of Princess Irulan, the daughter of the Emperor. But the article did state that the deal might not work out as the script of the project is still being written. Pugh might be waiting for the latest draft in order to join the project. There might still be some hurdles when it comes to shooting the project as the actor is associated with some other projects, Pugh is actually in contention to star in the Madonna biopic and this movie might coincide with Dune: Part 2.
It would be interesting to see the acting prowess of Pugh add to the already stellar cast of Dune. She will be seen next to her Little Women co-star Timothée Chalamet along with Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson. It is interesting to see that these movies are actually picking some of the biggest names when working on the movies. Pugh proved her skills in action when she appeared as Yelena Belova in Black Widow. The actress actually proved to be one of the most exciting characters to have joined the MCU in 2021. She will be the perfect choice for Princess Irulan in Dune: Part 2.
Denis Villeneuve Talks About Dune 2
Director Denis Villeneuve has been quite vocal about his plans for the sequel to the movie. He had actually intended to shoot both the movies simultaneously but COVID actually affected these plans. According to the director:
We are supposed to shoot by the end of the summer. I will say it is mostly designed. The thing that helps us right now is that it’s the first time I’ve revisited a universe. So I’m working with the same crew, everybody knows what to do, we know what it will look like. The movie will be more challenging, but we know where we are stepping. And the screenplay is written. So I feel confident. Frankly, the only big unknown for me right now is the pandemic.
Now that cinema halls are actually open, we can imagine that Dune: Part 2 might end up being a massive box office success. This is mainly because the second film will actually take things to a whole new level. At the same time, the massive cast will be returning with the exception of a few for the project. There are already some interesting spin-off projects under development for the movie. Villeneuve has stated that he wants to expand this to a possible trilogy of movies.
Dune: Part 2 will be released in theaters worldwide on October 20, 2023.
