Here’s the Deleted Uncle Ben Moment of Homecoming

The MCU adaptation of Spider-Man saw many differences from the previous adaptations that Sony went for. The past two ventures told us the story of how Peter Parker gets his powers. MCU did not try to make this movie and that actually helped the movie. The overall narrative of MCU focused on the Infinity Saga and an origin would have slowed down and made it quite boring and repetitive. Now that the Saga is over more focus could be placed on the character’s origin with various projects coming out based around him. It seems that the writers of the project had initially planned to do a scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming teasing Uncle Ben. Read on to find out about the deleted Uncle Ben moment of Homecoming.

Uncle Ben

Ben Parker is an essential character in the origin of Spider-Man and this character was present in both the previous movies. MCU managed to pull off not having the character. This character is mostly known for uttering the most popular words associated with the character – “With great power, comes great responsibility.” Both the previous movies tried to have different renditions of this dialogue and the character. But it seems the MCU writers also pondered the thought of having the character of Uncle Ben.

Uncle Ben in Spider-Man: Homecoming

In a tweet posted on Monday, Jonathan Goldstein, one of the writers of Spider-Man: Homecoming mentioned that they decided to skip on a scene that would reference Uncle Ben’s character. He tweeted:

We wrote a scene where May takes Peter to the closet and they choose one of Ben’s old suits which she still hadn’t thrown away.

Another writer for the movie mentioned why the scene was cut:

We did talk about there being a scene where [May] references him directly. It was when [Peter] was getting ready for homecoming and the wardrobe she was giving Peter was all Uncle Ben’s clothes. It was a nice moment, but we also knew that it veered away from his arc. If you’re going to talk about someone’s death, you don’t want it to be a throwaway.

This seems like a smart move considering this arc could be brought in a different manner now. We will probably get to see the backstory of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker being explored in the upcoming prequel series.
