How Thor 4 Can Use The Magic Belt From Spider-Man: Homecoming

Keeping with the terms of the other MCU projects Marvels has continued to keep its secrecy regarding future projects. One of the most exciting future projects Thor: Love & Thunder has fans hyped up about the narrative that will unfold there. There have been hints at a lot of characters appearing in the movie both new and past characters reprising their roles. This will also be the first time we will get a fourth film in the solo ventures of any of the characters in the MCU. Marvel has a tendency of placing details in the movies that seem to become rather important in some of the future projects. And now, we’re going to discuss how Thor 4 can use the magic belt, Megingjörð that was mentioned in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Thor’s Belt In Spider-Man: Homecoming

Marvel might have never given much explanation for the Thor reference in Spider-Man’s first solo venture but that doesn’t mean that it was a throwaway line. Fans will remember the subplot in Homecoming where Tony Stark was actually moving out of the Avengers Tower and this included moving the belongings of the heroes to the Avengers Compound. During one such scene, we see Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan going through an inventory of everything that is still required to be moved. While the docking is taking place, we hear him mention something that he couldn’t pronounce and he ends up calling it “Thor’s magic belt”. He was clearly talking about Megingjörð, but this belt was never again mentioned in the MCU.

Megingjörð is actually a part of the Norse mythology and it is actually the enchanted Belt of Strength that is owned by Thor. When worn by Thor, the belt ends up doubling the already legendary might and strength of the God of Thunder. It has been used quite a few times by Thor in the comics and each of these moments seemed to be rather significant to the usage of the belt. One such moment was when he used it to boost his powers so that he can use the God-Blast from his Mjolnir to breach the impenetrable armor of the Celestial Exitar.

Now that we are getting a Thor solo venture after Thor has finally reunited with his Avengers friends he might have actually picked on the Megingjörð. This means that Thor could actually put it to use for the battles that he might face in Thor: Love & Thunder. But that would mean that Happy was able to successfully transfer the Megingjörð to the Avengers compound following the plane carrying all those items getting crashed in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

While we didn’t see Thor using the magic belt when he was battling with Thanos, he could’ve simply acquired it later and taken it as he boarded with the Guardians of the Galaxy. There is even a chance that the Megingjörð could have been moved to New Asgard without Thor even knowing about it. We are very well aware that Marvel won’t use details as heavy as this just for some throwaway reason and it would actually carry some significance. There might be a chance that when he does come across the Megingjörð he would remember his friend Tony Stark and it would give us an idea of how much time has passed in the MCU.

We might end up getting a lot more awesome action sequences if the Megingjörð is actually used in the movie and considering Taika Waititi will be directing it we can actually hope for him to do proper justice. In his previous movie, Thor: Ragnarok, we got to see some of the most epic moments as Thor came to terms with the fact that he was the God of Thunder. We got a visual idea of the power levels of Odinson and it made for a visual treat. The movie will also feature Natalie Portman’s Jane as she takes on the mantle of the God of Thunder and fans are wondering how this will come to be.

Thor: Love & Thunder will release in theaters worldwide on July 8, 2022. Besides that, MCU’s upcoming roster includes Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Fantastic Four, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Deadpool 3, Captain America 4, Nova, Shang-Chi 2, and Blade.
