Michael Chaves has given us The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and it is a good flick to watch. While the movie has some scary jumps, it culminated in the emotional side of the movie too. The Conjuring 3 highlights the relationship between Lorraine and Ed perfectly. Moreover, we finally got a flashback scene into their initial days too. The Conjuring 3 had an evil that was too strong for Lorraine and Ed both. Mostly, it is Lorraine that uses her abilities to control demons and end the horror. But what are her powers exactly? Let’s talk about the abilities of Lorraine Warren in Conjuring 3 today!
Jessica Louise Strong Vision
Conjuring 3 had more than one Occultist victim. So, this where the Warrens find the case of Jessica Louise Strong and Katie Lincoln. To prove herself useful to the investigators, she showcases a few of her abilities by finding the right murder weapon. She is able to read the energy off of each item and see which one caused Katie’s end. This takes out in the woods with the investigator, Ed, and Lorraine.
It was at this moment that Lorraine began to see what happened. That is because she had transported herself back to that fateful night after making a connection with the land. This was something that she hasn’t done to this level before The Conjuring 3. Lorraine’s psychic abilities allowed her to step into Jessica’s place in the spiritual world and watch the murder take place through her eyes. This was absolutely out of the blue!
David Glatzel Vision’s Helped Them Put On The Right Track
At the beginning of Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, we witness the exorcism of the 8-yr old David Glatzel. Here, Lorraine saw flashes of a vision after she touches David:’s hand. She saw a hand lighting a candle and a cauldron. The hands appeared to be preparing a spell or completing a ritual. But at this moment, the owner of the hands wasn’t revealed yet.
It was Lorraine’s vision at this moment that set the pretext of the entire film. Later in the film, Lorraine learned she was seeing the connection between David and the Occultist. It was the woman who cursed him with the Witch’s Totem. Even though Lorraine only got a brief glance at the owner’s hands, she was able to drive the entire team in the right direction with little to no knowledge.
The Occultist Connection
In a terrifying sequence, Ed and Lorraine broke into the morgue where Jessica’s body was taken to. Here, she attempts to make the connection again. This time it is far easier for her to make a strong connection. That could be because it is easier to make the connection with a corpse than an 8-yr old who was currently possessed. Once again, the connection allows Lorraine to transport her consciousness from the physical realm and she is able to dance between her own consciousness and that of the Occultists.
It was here that Lorraine found out, for once, the connection goes both ways. This means, that if she is able to see the Occultist and enter her domain, so could the Occultist. She was even able to have a conversation with the Occultist during her vision. This was a brand new addition to Lorraine’s power and something that the viewers never saw before. Though she was surprised herself, the connection gave her enough power to interfere with the Occultist’s ongoing ritual and by praying. It is unknown if this particular power of connection is only exclusive to the Occultist and only for Conjuring 3.
Relevance To Real Life Lorraine Warren
While the movie is based on a true story, so is Lorraine’s abilities. Well, I am not saying entirely, but mostly. The real Lorraine Warren too possessed some serious abilities. She did possess psychic abilities. Often would use them in her work with her husband Ed as they looked for people that needed help fighting off the paranormal. Her abilities to interact with the paranormal began when she was a kid. After marrying Ed, both of them decided to unwrap the truth around this mystery, and bring the truth to the surface.
The two founded the New England Society for Psychic Research, and never charged for their services. Moreover, the two claimed to have investigated almost 10,000, though most ended up having a non-paranormal explanation. She has dedicated her abilities to cases like the Amityville and the Snedeker house, which inspired the movie The Haunting in Connecticut.
Directed by Michael Chaves, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It stars Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ruairi O’Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard.
