Green Lantern Series: Latest Rumor Reveals Key Details About Sinestro

Green Lantern has been one of the most controversial projects ever from DC. The character failed to launch properly 10 years ago with Ryan Reynolds as the lead. The movie took a severe beating, and the fans did not receive it well. It was even thrashed by critics, as they called it a lazy attempt. But that didn’t stop DC from recreating the character and give it another go, albeit the second attempt has taken a decade. As DC expands its venture on the small screen as well, we will soon be getting a brand new Green Lantern series. HBO Max has a live-action Green Lantern series on the way. Moreover, a Green Lantern Corps reboot was announced back in 2014.

HBO Max’s Green Lantern series has been coming together nicely, with Seth Grahame-Smith (who was once supposed to direct The Flash) being hired as showrunner along with the Arrowverse’s Marc Guggenheim producing. The plot remains unknown. The official announcement confirmed that the series will focus on multiple Green Lanterns including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Alan Scott, the first-ever Green Lantern from the comics.

THE NEWS

Knight Edge Media, via The Illuminerdi, shared in a report that HBO Max’s Green Lantern Corps series is looking for an actor to portray Thaal Sinestro. The classic DC Comics character was played by Mark Strong during the Ryan Reynolds-led Green Lantern film from 2011. The listing that the outlet acquired revealed that the series is searching for a male actor in the 40s age range of any ethnicity for the role. Sinestro is being described as both a “warrior monk” and “the greatest of all the Green Lanterns.”

THAAL SINESTRO
(Male, 40s, any ethnicity)

The greatest of all the Green Lanterns, Sinestro is akin to a warrior monk, the personification of grace under pressure. He serves as the strategic commander for the Corps and all Lanterns follow his orders without question. Although he is revered for his unmatched willpower and wisdom, a darker destiny belies his otherwise Zen demeanor. [SERIES REGULAR]

It was revealed that the show will be a decade-spanning adventure that will feature different time periods such as the 1940s, 1980s, and modern-day. HBO Max has ordered a total of 10 one-hour episodes, which will be co-written and executively produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with the former acting as showrunner. The official Twitter account for HBO Max also made a post, saying that the series would be a story “spanning decades and galaxies.” Check out the full post below:

It is still to be known if Sinestro will play the main villain in the series. The character description hints at Sinestro as the leader of the Green Lantern Corps and a more heroic figure at first. But it is a 10-episode season, and we can surely expect something from him in the latter part of the series. Doubts remain regarding Hal Jordan, the most well-known Green Lantern if he will appear in the series. Hal is Sinestro’s greatest foe. Hence, it would be just right if he shows up to jumpstart the character’s villainous turn.
