Captain America 4 is Officially Under Development

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER EPISODE 6 “ONE WORLD, ONE PEOPLE”

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has left the fans in splits. The series ends on an epic cliffhanger. Characters like Walker, Val, and Sharon were all given a moment to establish themselves. The show has opened numerous doors for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has perfectly cultivated around Sam and Bucky’s life while incorporating other elements as well. But the show never forgot its ultimate goal, i.e. to introduce the new Captain America. We finally got to see Sam as our new Captain America, and now he is getting his own film in the MCU. Take that Tom H!!!

The animosity surrounding John Walker is finally over (although, his redemption comes way too soon). In the scene where he had to choose between saving a truck full of Senators and chasing Karli, he finally made the right decision and tried to save the Senators. Sharon, in the post-credit scenes, was seen planning for future chaos as the Power-Broker after getting her position back in the CIA. Bucky redeemed himself as he came to terms with his past and confronted every name in the diary that he had wronged. Isaiah Bradley too got his closure as Sam introduced his legacy in the museum. And of course, Sam Wilson is ready to rock the mantle of Captain America.

After the finale, we all wondered what’s next for Sam & Bucky. Perhaps a season 2 was going to be inbound with a new title. But, Marvel has pulled another rabbit out of the hat! The Hollywood Reporter just revealed that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer and showrunner, Malcolm Spellman is now developing a fourth Captain America movie. Spellman will be penning the script alongside Dalon Musson, another staff writer on the Disney+ show.

This was the news that we were so eagerly waiting for. The title of the film is not yet confirmed. Three previous movies dedicated to Captain America are The First Avenger (2011), The Winter Soldier (2014), Civil War (2016). So, it’ll be interesting to see the title of the fourth one. It obviously can’t be Captain America and the Winter Soldier because the second Cap film was titled TWS! So, let’s wait and see how things turn out for the fourth film. I am excited to see Sam stepping out of Steve’s shadow and holding his own.

Even with Steve holding the torch for 12 years in the MCU, Sam decided to go against all odds and claimed that he is ready to face the new challenges as Cap now. He is aware of the deadly consequences, but he is unscathed. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was vocal about a black man being Captain America. Isaiah Bradley might just be one of the most crucial additions to the series. He provoked Sam to think about his decision, but only ended up giving him clarity.

Now, the latest news of Captain America 4 in development only proves that Sam’s Captain America will not just be limited to the streaming world. Having a solo film only proves that Sam is here to stick for a very long time in the MCU. Fans thought that Captain America might never make it back to the top after Steve’s retirement in Avengers: Endgame. But the MCU went on to amplify the character’s future in a way that is too good to be true. Sam definitely makes a good Captain America. After all, Steve made the right call. He was aware of Sam’s potential and considered his military experience. He knew that Sam is aware of the cost of war. Hence, he would always make the right call. Even when fighting against Karli, he believed in her innocence and refused to fight her.

The news comes with no plot details. So for now, I would say that you can go all-out with your imagination. But of course, with this latest reveal, Captain America is going to stay in the headlines heavily. We have got to keep our eyes on any new development. Spellman’s expertise on the character ensures the safety of Captain America’s future. It seems that Anthony Mackie is going to be in the middle of the MCU now. Well, it’s good to see that.

Where can we see our titular heroes next? Bucky could have a cameo in Black Panther 2 while Sam probably shows up in Armor Wars for a cameo. But it is more or less confirmed that they’d team up in Captain America 4. Just imagine if the film ends up being called, “Captain America and The White Wolf.” That’d be awesome I guess.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is streaming on Disney+. Directed by Kari Skogland, it stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Desmond Chiam, Miki Ishikawa, Noah Mills, and Carl Lumbly.
