The Eternals is one of the first new projects that is coming into the MCU after Avengers: Endgame. There have been rumors about Captain Britain, the Black Knight, and Thunderbolts, but The Eternals is far ahead in development than any other film. In fact, it almost has the entire cast ready to join in for production this August.
The likes of Richard Madden (Ikaris), Angelina Jolie (Sersi), Kumail Nanjiani & Ma Dong-Seok have been confirmed to star in the upcoming ensemble movie. But other than that, we don’t really have an idea as to who else is going to step into this big team-up movie coming out next year. The 4Chan website has given out a report which claims that Keanu Reeves is coming in to play the big villain Druig.
But that’s not it, the site is also reporting that Stranger Things Star Millie Bobby Brown is going to be joining the rest of the cast. The 15-year-old has really got a hike in her career after being in 2 seasons of Stranger Things. The third season is about to arrive but before that, she is also going to be in Godzilla: King of Monsters. Rumor suggests that she could be playing Piper from the comics but we cannot be sure as of now.
Other characters who have been named by 4Chan are Shawnee Smith, Michael Obiora and Luke Evans from Fast & Furious 6 & The Hobbit trilogy. We cannot be sure of who these actors will be portraying in the film but we will find out very soon if this rumor is in fact true.
As far as the cameos are concerned, this film will have Charlie Hunnam making one, since his shooting only requires 3 days as per the report. And then there’s Matthew Rhys who is said to be the younger version of Odin.
What’s interesting is that we don’t see an actor who can pull off Hercules amongst the actors named here. So perhaps he could be missing out on this film, or an actor is yet to be cast. There’s said to be MCU’s second Gay character as one of the leads in this film and the only hero having an LGBTQ background in the comics is Hercules. So he should also be stepping in.
Here’s what Feige had to say while addressing the rumor of a Gay Lead:
“Well it’s accurate in that we’ve talked about [it for] a long time. You look at the success of Captain Marvel and Black Panther. We want the movies to reflect the audience and we want every member of our global audience to see themselves reflected on the screen. And that’s what we’ve been doing for a long time. And certainly, that’s what we’re focusing on going forward.”
Kevin Feige described the Eternals to go around having a similar tone as the Guardians of the Galaxy. He said:
“You’re reaction about not being familiar with the Eternals is perfect, because most people weren’t familiar with Guardians [of the Galaxy] and believe it or not there were people that were not familiar with Avengers or with Iron Man. So for us, its finding great stories whether people have heard of them or not and bring them to the big screen in as amazing a way as we can.”
Directed by Chloe Zhao, and from a script written by brothers Matthew and Ryan Firpo, The Eternals will supposedly come out on November 6, 2020. Here’s the synopsis running around the internet:
“The story of ‘THE ETERNALS’ is set millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered individuals as well as more villainous off-shoots known as Deviants. The two groups went on to battle each other throughout history to see which would eventually become the ultimate race. The story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.”
