Here’s Everything We Know About Hulk’s Role in Avengers: Endgame
The upcoming crossover event from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame is going to be the biggest that we have ever seen! Avengers: Infinity War took over that record last year, but its successor will dethrone the film as it brings in even more characters and even higher stakes for the larger MCU.
Talking about the many characters that are going to appear in the film, some of those are definitely going to appear in the MCU one last time. While the MCU exit is confirmed for the likes of Captain America and Iron Man, we could also be seeing the end of Hulk.
So guessing the roles of every individual character brings us to the mighty Hulk. He is going to have a pretty cool story arc come this April. As of now Hulk going is through his 3 story arc that supposedly runs through Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and culminates in Avengers: Endgame. So far we have seen that 2 out of the three movies that are supposed to tell the story of the Hulk and the final chapter is left.
In Thor: Ragnarok, we saw Hulk finally being able to take control over Banner, as after what we saw Hulk leaving Earth towards the end of Age of Ultron, he landed on Sakaar through a portal and stayed as Hulk for the next two years. The Hulk and Bruce Banner are two different personalities living in one single body.
The Gamma rays that Bruce was exposed to caused this dormant personality to dominate on many occasions. By Age of Ultron, it was getting harder for Bruce to return to his normal state after turning into the Hulk, and that is where Natasha’s lullabies came into play. His affection for Nat became the driving factor for him to be able to counter Hulk’s willingness to stay out.
But with Nat not being around, there was no one to bring Banner out, and hence Hulk drove the wagon while Banner was locked in the back seat. It was only when he saw Natasha in the recorded video on the Quinjet that Banner was able to take over.
Banner’s mind has always been in a constant state of torment, with two personalities fighting to be in the light at all times but in Infinity War, we actually got to see something totally different. Bruce revealed back in the first Avengers that he is always angry, which means that the Hulk is always ready to come out, but in Infinity War, we saw Hulk in complete denial of coming out.
Joe Russo revealed that the Hulk was tired of fighting for Banner, as that is the only time when Banner wants him to be out. The two alter egos are not willing to accept and embrace their conditions, and that is why they are never in Sync. The beat down against Thanos made Hulk realize what Banner wants from him, and hence he repeatedly denies any appearance henceforth. So this makes us all think that how exactly Banner would solve this Hulk Conundrum by Avengers 4.
Banner did say that he and Hulk have a lot to figure out, so as far as we could suspect that by Avengers: Endgame, Hulk and Banner will probably have accepted each other, Banner will embrace the Hulk, and the Hulk will do the same for Banner. The two personalities will merge into one, with Banner’s intellect being in control and Hulk’s body being out there.
Banner will feel exactly what the Hulk feels physically and mentally, and Hulk will feel exactly the same. That is where the so-called “Professor Hulk” from the comics would come in. With Banner and Hulk’s brains being merged, he’d even remember all the experiences he’d had as the Hulk if he would ever change back to his natural form.
There have been theories that Hulk will emerge with a lot of rage witnessing the death of Natasha Romanoff, but that possibility does seem a little unlikely as of now. Looking at the clothes that the Hulk is wearing in all the promos and the concept art & toy leaks, it seems that Hulk and Banner re finally working with each other. So we will finally get to see an intellectual Green Goliath who is as strong as the Hulk and as smart as Banner. With Avengers: Endgame possibly being the final movie of the Hulk, Marvel would want to end his arc on a very high note.
One thing that we know for sure will happen is the rematch between Thanos and “Professor Hulk.” This time the Hulk will drive a certain fear in the heart of Thanos. The Mad Titan will know why no one should ever mess with the Hulk! Hulk’s character could be left open for a plausible return after Avengers: Endgame if Marvel deems to bring him back later on.
Apart from figuring out the Hulk Conundrum, Bruce Banner could be really important to the plot of Endgame as he and Shuri (who most likely is alive) could work with Tony Stark and Rocket to figure out the intricacies of the Quantum Realm.
The upcoming TV Spot on Super Bowl could give us some more hints upon what the Hulk is going to do in the film. Another aspect about Hulk is the brand new weapon he is getting for this film. Revealed by the action figure set that has Hulk wearing the Quantum Realm was the new weapon that Hulk is getting. Perhaps Bruce and Shuri together could bring in a Vibranium weapon for the Hulk.
Hulk’s role in Avengers: Endgame will probably be the most exciting of all. Here’s the official Synopsis of the movie:
“Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.”
