The national awards are the highest awards given for the contribution to the industry by the Government of India. The talented Bharatnatyam actress who lost her leg due to an unfortunate accident won a national award for her stellar performance in “Mayuri” directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao.

Though the Telugu film industry has many superstars it has failed to bag a mainstream award in the category. The 64th national awards came as a pleasant surprise for many as 3 Telugu movies bagged awards. “Shatamanam Bhavathi” was adjudged the Best Popular Film at the National Level, while Raju Sundaram was declared the Best Choreographer for “Janatha Garage”. Sensational Small Movie, Pelli Choopulu was adjudged the Best Telugu Film for the year, and Tarun Bhasker was adjudged Best Dialogue Writer for his work in the film. Lets hope the new year brings new hope for Tollywood.
