Dormammu vs Thanos: Here’s Why Thanos Has Nothing to Bargain For

Cosmic entities. Beings of supreme power. The mightiest being in all of the universe takes on the cosmic ruler of the dark dimension. The ruler and the cosmic power of dark dimension vs the tyrant of the dark quadrant. A villain of unimaginable power and omnipresent nature vs the greatest tyrant this universe has ever witnessed. It’s natural that the fandom wants to know who wins the entity that was defeated by Dr. Strange only by using the time stone and now the being who is challenging the entire avenger’s squad. Dormammu vs Thanos. Well, the answer might not be something that you’d expect because contrary to popular belief there are some factors that need to be examined in a battle of such proportions.

The fight is not one that can be decided so easily. Both of these characters have incredible feats in the comics. Think about what a pro would say when you ask him who wins the final boss or the DLC boss? It’s a stalemate of epic proportions until someone sits and analyses. So we at quirkybyte will solve this conundrum for the fandom today. Before we do that, however, let’s have a bio and a character breakdown for both combatants. Here we go.

Thanos

The tyrant of the dark quadrant and the creature wildly renowned throughout the universe as the Mad Titan is, in fact, a hybrid born of the Eternals. The Eternals were a race created by the primary creatures of the Marvel comic-verse known only as the celestials. These celestials include beings we are already familiar with including the grandmaster and the collector. You see, the Celestials were the creators of all life in the Marvel comic verse, or so the writers have led us to believe.

Although these beings of supreme power populated the universe with complex life, along the way they also realized that they had somewhat disturbed the balance of the universe in doing so. Hence, to correct their mistakes the celestials took to experimentation on the life they had so created, to judge it worthy enough to let it perpetuate itself or not. Hence, the segregation of the humans into three categories by the celestials.

The first were the beings who were a distorted image of the human life, a subterranean species that would become the source of rumors of trolls and monsters in the modern era. The second were the normal humans themselves that populated the planet earth. And lastly, the second variation of the human species were near perfect genetic beings known only as the Eternals. The Eternals were blessed with perfect genetic structure giving them perfect physical and mental attributes and longevity.

These Eternals did not wish to occupy the same planet as with this of their primitive “ancestors” so they decided to leave the planet earth and occupied a moon of Saturn now named Titan. It was here that a child was born to the Eternals, a child with purple skin who would take up the name of the Greek God of death Thanatos. This child grew up to be Thanos. His strength unrivaled and his intellect to match even the greatest of tacticians Thanos assumed command of not only Titan but the entirely of the dark quadrant, ruling with an iron fist. This Titan was not all brawn, he had love in him too. But this is Thanos we are talking about, so the object of his love can’t be as simple as a female.

No sir, the entity Thanos fell in love with was Lady Death herself, or rather the personification of death. Lady death convinced her estranged and powerful lover that the universe was out of balance and the balance of life needed to be restored to the universe, the only way to do so was by wiping out half the life in all of existence and only this act would win Thanos Death’s favor.

This is what instigated the Mad titan’s hunt for the infinity stones and his pursue of absolute strength and tyranny.

Dormammu

Not much is known about the ruler of the dark dimension. The Marvel bio of Dormammu describes him as a being composed of pure mystical energy. Dormammu possesses more raw power than even the most skilled sorcerer. Although he is frequently undone by his own impatience; his powers can reach even greater heights via worship by others. Among his many abilities is matter transmutation, interdimensional teleportation, size and shape alteration, element control, telepathy, the creation of artificial beings, and empowerment of others. Dormammu can call upon the mystic energies of the entire dark dimension this is including and in excess of his own innate power, and he commands its vast resources as its ruler; however, his abilities are somewhat limited when present in other universes, unless he can directly tap its power via symbiosis or rebirth.

Like that of other entities, Dormammu’s powers can be invoked by others in part by particular rituals or spells. This is the power that Dormammu holds and more often than not it is enough to swat away cosmic entities as if they were flies on a table. Roaming in front of his eyes. The limitless power of Dormammu is only second to his sheer cruelty and raw power. He can end entire civilizations if need be and has been defeated by the sorcerer supreme only by using the time stone in the Marvel cinematic universe.

Dormammu vs Thanos

The ruler of the dark dimension has taken over the entirety of dimensions before and has mounted attacks and destroyed countless civilizations. His cruelty is on par with Thanos but his destruction far exceeds that of the Mad Titan. The sheer scale on which Dormammu functions is beyond our mortal understanding. His dimension and his existence itself lies beyond time itself. The power of this being is beyond all rational belief and understanding.

Before we start this battle we need to determine what the condition for victory for each combatant is. Although we can be fairly sure that both entities are without mercy and will kill their opponent without remorse and without a second thought. This is the nature of villains. However generic   The villains of Marvel comic-verse have always been powerful entities capable of ending entire universes. That seems to be the case here. But this fight has a major flaw. Although we have seen Thanos fight against other God level beings before. Beings such as Odin and celestials have been the target of Thanos’s rage before.

And although the mighty Mad Titan was not able to defeat these entities he has often held his own in these matchups and then some. The Mad Titan has immense resilience and might to match it. We see it in every panel and every fight the Mad titan undertakes. This is why Thanos is feared throughout the 616 universes, because of his immense reach and power struggle. Something that distinguishes him from the other villains in Marvel comics rogue gallery.

Dormammu vs Thanos

Alas, resilience and might can do little against cosmic entities such as Dormammu. It comes down to simple math. Dormammu outpowers Thanos in every department. He can kill the Mad Titan by the mere thought of death and simultaneously behind him with his ever so precious mistress death. Short of acquiring the infinity gauntlet or the cosmic cube, there is little the ruler of the quadrant will be able to do against Dormammu.

Dormammu vs Thanos

The fight is over before it begins. As Thanos reaches for the first weapon in his arsenal to take on the mystical being, his life is ended by Dormammu and the Mad Titan is reduced to a lump of ash on the ground. This is the difference in their power. However, given half a chance Thanos may acquire certain artifacts for the fight that will enable him to completely shatter the presence of Dormammu. The cosmic entity or not you can’t fight the power of reality and eternity itself. In fact, Dormammu has taken on eternity before and lost.
