Here Is How CGI Looks On Henry Cavill’s Moustache In Justice League

Justice League has now hit the theatres and the reaction from the fans is amazing. The movie is really great according to the fans and each and every moviegoer whether he/she is a comic book fan or not, is coming out having a good time watching the movie. The critics, on the other hand, are still following the same trend that they were with pre-Wonder Woman DC movies. The Rotten Tomatoes score for the movie currently stands at 40%.

The movie had its flaws, and it made mistakes upon the story, the work of two different directors was easily visible and the final CGI of the movie had a lot of issues as well. One of the biggest noticeable CGI mistakes was the one where they tried to use CGI on the face of Henry Cavill’s Superman.

As there was a change of directors because of Zack Snyder’s tragic departure from the movie and Joss Whedon had to step in to finish the rest of the movie, there were a lot of reshoots that were done towards the end and those reshoots itself cost about $25 Million.

After the reshoots, the production budget of the movie was about $300 Million, which is huge. And to still have visible CGI mistakes in a movie so expensive does feel like a let-down.

Now, when the reshoots were called up, Superman actor Henry Cavill was already working on Mission Impossible, and his character had a moustache during that shoot. So, could not get clean-shaved for Superman, which is why Whedon and Co. decided that they would digitally remove his moustache using CGI when he portrays Superman during those reshoots.

This is a screenshot of Superman’s Cgi touched digitally altered face.

We have seen CGI do greater things, like after the death of Paul Walker, Furious 7 was not yet complete and his brother stepped in to complete the movie and Paul Walker’s face was digitally created on his brother’s face and it was not noticeable at all, so this moustache deal did not feel like a big deal.

But as it turns out, when the people went in to see Justice League, they were easily able to make out that Henry Cavill’s face has been digitally touched and it looked really weird and funny at the same time.

Earlier the actor himself explained that his digital shave wasn’t as much of a hairy situation as originally believed. Here is what he said in an interview.

“It’s nothing to cover it up. What we do is we try to put it back on the top lip as much as possible. So they kind of wax it up. And then I had dots all over my face. And they try to put dots, which are barely visible, sort of in the various points on the face where you would see them during normal… not face replacement, but whatever CGI aspect they may be applying to a face. And yeah. I was covered in dots, and had a big mustache. It was definitely a new look for Superman.”

But, still this VFX mistake was visible at the theatres and one could easily make out that his stache is being covered up and in one or two scenes, we can see the shadow of it as well. Along with this, there are various other CGI mistakes that are pretty clearly visible, especially during the third act of the movie when the final battle takes place.
