5 Best Bollywood Movies of 2017 Till Now

You all would agree with me that this year has not been that great for Bollywood. The main reason behind this which could be stated is that the Bollywood superstars like Salman and Shah Rukh have not been able to deliver a blockbuster hit. Big budget Bollywood movies of them like Tubelight and Jab Harry met Sejal have failed terribly at the box office. But in this difficult time, some small budget Bollywood movies starring some new and unestablished faces have won our hearts.

So following is the list of 5 best Bollywood movies of 2017 till the date this article has been published:

TRAPPED

Starring the ever talented Rajkummar Rao this movie was released on 17th of March. Basically, a survival drama film which is a rare breed in the Indian Cinema this movie was able to keep the public on the edge of their seats until the last minute of the film. Being a low budget film this was shot in less than a month in a Mumbai apartment. Rajkummar Rao was highly praised for his amazing performance and the movie too won the award for ‘Best Asian Film’ in the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival.

BAREILLY KI BARFI

A Rom-Com starring promising actors like Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana & Rajkummar Rao in the lead role this movie was a surprise at the box office. Based on Nicolas Barreau’s book ‘The ingredients of love’ the movie has a sweet storyline, genuine comedy, and real characters. The movie is directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari who portrayed the chemistry between the trio beautifully. The audience especially loved the character of Rao (Pritam Vidrohi) who made them laugh their asses off!

LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA

This movie was finally released on 21st July after a long fight with the censor board particularly the “Sanskari” chief Pahlaj Nihalani who had shockingly denied to certify this film on the grounds of sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and being lady oriented. Pahlaj Nihalani was slammed widely for his controversial remarks and had to eventually release the movie with an A certificate. Basically, it is a dark comedy which addresses the social issues regarding the women by showing how they are suppressed in different ways by the opposite gender just to adhere to the societal norms. It is a beautiful movie with a strong social message of women empowerment.

THE GHAZI ATTACK

It had been a long time since we saw a good Indian war film. Patriotic blockbusters like Border, Lakshya et al were a distant memory. Then out of nowhere came The Ghazi Attack. Based on the mysterious sinking of PNS Ghazi during Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 the film stars talented actors in the lead role in the form of Rana Daggubati, Kay Kay Menon, Taapsee Pannu and Atul Kulkarni. The movie has breathtaking visual effects which keep the audience on the edge of their seats throughout the movie. The movie got positive reviews both from the critics and the audience.

SHUBH MANGAL SAVDHAN

With this movie, Ayushmaan Khurana yet again delivers a movie with a unique script just like Vicky Donor in 2012. So basically this is a comedy-drama movie based on a sexual disease (erectile dysfunction). The movie hit the theatres on 1st September and is still doing quite well in the box office. The best thing about this movie is that it raises the important issue of a sexual disease and how it is still considered a taboo in India. Bhumi Pedneker does full justice to her role just like in her previous movies. Hence this movie must be on every watcher’s list.

So these were some of the best movies of 2017 till now. We are just into September so we can still expect some more dose of good cinema in the coming three months. Some promising movies like Newton, Secret Superstar, Lucknow Central etc. are yet to be released. On the other hand, some good movies that have already been released might have missed this list too, so why don’t you let us know by putting their names in the comments.
