15 Sweetest Characters of Harry Potter Franchise

The highest grossing book series and now movies, the Harry Potter series is successful worldwide. With their amazingly innovative head cannons and fan fiction, this fantastical series has carved a unique niche for itself and has created “fandoms” all over. Apart from the obvious protagonists, here are my top fifteen Harry Potter “good guys” without whom the Harry Potter family is incomplete.

Minerva McGonagall

source

The most enigmatic character with an animagus of a cat, Professor McGonagall was the ultimate queen of sass. She backfired at Umbridge during her inspection, dueled Snape as the headmaster and did not give a shit to anyone. And let’s face it, no one could’ve been as perfect for this role as Maggie Smith.

Weasley twins

source

Not one fan can rekindle the fond memories that Fred and George Weasley gave us without thinking of Fred’s painful death. These twins are credited with carrying on the legacy of the Marauders as the most lovable pranksters ever.

Molly Weasley

source

The wonderful maternal figure to Harry who had to face her worst fear of losing one of her children as a price to fight in the battle. But not once did she think twice before giving her full support to Harry and being fiercely protective of him.

Dobby

The best elf ever, with his bizarre outbursts and his pathetic attempts at repentance, Dobby was undoubtedly one of the nicest characters in the series. The difference between his attitude and that of Kreacher probably sets him apart from the elvish community.

Peeves

Every Potterhead complains about Peeves’ absence from the movies. He was the most mischievous of Hogwarts’ ghosts and never failed to humiliate any teacher or student to entertain himself and the readers.

The Marauders

source

Introduced to the readers in the third novel via the Marauders’ Map and giving us the first glimpse of their life in the fifth book through Snape’s memory, Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs were a significant part of the novels. They presented their own perspective of friendship, pranks, chivalry and fun.

Hagrid

source

Hagrid could very well be considered the kindest character of the series. From bringing Harry his first ever birthday cake to fighting giants for Dumbledore’s army, Hagrid was the most trusted person and the most affectionate character in the series.

Tonks

source

Nymphadora Tonks was this amazingly cool person and a great person to hang out with. The youngest Auror-trained personally by Mad-eye Moody and a born Metamorphmagus who sacrificed herself in the war, she was extremely selfless. She went ahead to the final war knowing perfectly well that she might not get to see her child again. She embraced Remus at the time when he was at his most vulnerable and difficult time of life. Undoubtedly one hell of a character.

Luna Lovegood

source

Introduced to the readers as “Loonie Lovegood”, Luna was one of the most beautiful characters in the series who taught everyone to embrace their weird side.

Ginny Weasley

source

She is the epitome of a fangirl because she ended up marrying her crush! That’s something every fan dreams of. *sigh*

Severus Snape

source

Okay, so this is definitely a debatable point whether we can establish him as the good guy or not. True, he sacrificed his life for Harry but he did make him and every other Gryffindor miserable. He got personal as he insulted Harry’s father on numerous occasions but then again the story takes this wild twist at the very last juncture that does establish him as a brave man.

Lee Jordan

source

The best friend of Weasley twins and an accomplice in almost all their pranks, Lee Jordan was yet another memorable character. His legendary commentary on all Quidditch matches makes him stand out.

Moaning Myrtle

She was introduced in the second book but personally, we see her best side in book five where she is Malfoy’s confidant. She defends Draco when everyone is against him and is the only one at Hogwarts to comfort him at his most difficult time.

Draco Malfoy

He shows that all snobbish kids don’t turn out to be evil. Draco’s life at Hogwarts is probably the saddest childhood, even worse than Harry’s because he was cornered into becoming a Death Eater by his own family members.

Frank and Alice Longbottom

Harry Potter
source

They are the reason that finally evokes sympathy from Harry Potter for Neville. Their life at St. Mungo’s is pitiful and gave us a glimpse into the tortured witches and wizards must have gone through during the time Voldemort was gaining power.

Shruti Sharma

A student of English Literature at the Delhi University, Shruti is a diehard fan of Hugh Laurie, J.K. Rowling, Khaled Hosseini and Robert Downey Jr. Passionate about food, books, movies and sitcoms, this Potterhead has found her niche in creative writing and plans to go places.
