Here’s Why Deadpool Rocked and Green Lantern Shocked

Ryan Reynolds may be one of the few actors who has the privilege to be featured in both a DC movie (Green Lantern) and a Marvel movie (Deadpool). He is also one of the few actors who made a comeback after starring in the biggest superhero flop of all time. Green Lantern was also critically panned by both fans and critics, which ended up stalling the actor’s rising career.

Now with age and newfound superstardom, the actor has gained perspective about what happened in Green Lantern that resulted in him making Deadpool-The Marvel movie was the surprise hit of 2016. Reynolds gave an answer to why Deadpool worked and Green Lantern did not at a Q&A screening of Deadpool:

“You just go back to script, script, script, [On Green Lantern] we did not have a working script until we were halfway through shooting. That is a handicap, there’s nothing you can do about that. And that’s just the nature of this business oftentimes, it’s a poster and release date first, start shooting and we’ll figure out the rest as we go. And it’s just, it’s insane. It’s hard for everyone. Everyone that worked on that movie gave their last drop of blood.”

This was not the first time that Reynolds talked about Green Lantern and how the lack of script  affected the movie:

“When we shot Green Lantern, nobody auditioning for the role of Green Lantern was given the opportunity to read the script, because the script didn’t exist,” he said. ”I’m not complaining about it — it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and if I were to go back and retrace my steps, I would probably do everything the exact same way. But script, that’s what’s different on this one.”

Reynolds seems to have gained a sense of clarity with his career path after experiencing such a huge setback for that many years. and lucky for us, the lesson he learned ended with a good instinct for what works in a superhero movie, or maybe it was just for Deadpool.
