The First Trailer For Fantastic Beasts 2 Is Out And Here’s The Breakdown

The first teaser trailer for the second installment of the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise is finally out and our minds just got blown. The first installment came out in November 2016 and it left us all asking for more. The movie explored the wizard community of America and the timeline was 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter series. The movie got a good response from the fans and critics alike and started the new series with a bang. Fantastic Beasts 2  ‘The Crimes of Grindelwald’ follows Newt Scamander in some more of his adventures alongside the most loved headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore!

Yes, we are back to Hogwarts in the first scene of the trailer itself and are introduced to a younger and handsome version of our beloved future headmaster in his office being interrogated by some people who seem like ministry officials. Dumbledore is suspected to have sent Newt on a mission to Paris and of course it involves Grindelwald. Newt is out and about in the streets of Paris and is joined by a character that was loved by all in the first movie, Jacob Kowalski! The last movie ended with Jacob losing all memory of his magical adventures but looks like he got it back in this one and is again accompanying Newt happily.

Dumbledore has asked Newt to pick a side and help him track down his old friend Gellert Grindelwald. This isn’t the first time we will see Dumbledore getting his work done by someone else and he will probably step in later when things get out of hand. This is the first time we will see Jude Law take on the role of the legendary Albus Dumbledore and it is easily the most anticipated thing in the movie. Johnny Depp is reprising his role as Grindelwald and we hope to see some chemistry between the two as they share a lot of history.

The trailer also features Zoe Kravitz who is playing the role of Leta Lestrange who could be a wild card character for this series. Leta and Newt were friends in school and maybe a bit more from Newt’s side. Leta apparently got engaged to Newt’s older brother Theseus and there will be some tension between her and Newt. This could be the dramatic element of the movie and we can’t wait to find out more.

You can also see the mark of the ‘Deathly Hallows’ in the trailer which is significant to the plot of this film. If you have read the Harry Potter books you would know that the last book gives us some insight into the story of Grindelwald and his plans for the wizarding world. The symbol of the deathly hallows was indeed important to Grindelwald and his plans of world domination. He was expelled from Durmstrang for ‘twisted experiments’ and malicious schemes. His back story will be explored in this film and his relationship with Albus Dumbledore. Albus Dumbledore who was once a dear friend of Grindelwald is now on the other side and will be standing up against the villain. The two wizards were close before an unfortunate accident happened that made them both enemies.

Another character that we are happy to see again is Credence Barebone who was killed in the first movie but apparently he survived and is back in action. Ezra Miller’s portrayal of this grim character was very good and it is a delight to know that he will reprise his role. The trailer also features some fantastic beasts and what looks like another obscurus and this time female.

The story will continue months after the end of the first film and this time it is set in Paris. David Yates will return as the director of the series and the screenplay is written by JK Rowling herself. Jude Law is making his debut as the young Dumbledore and we can’t wait to see it.
