What is the only thing better than superheroes?? More Superheroes of course!!!! With the MCU and the DCEU on a mad race to obtain an absolute monopoly of the superhero genre, the stage is set for one epic Hollywood brawl of the century. Amongst the well known Superhero movies coming in the future are Avengers 4, Aquaman, Shazam and Captain Marvel. But we bet you never knew that 2020 was going to feature a lot more superhero movies than you care to imagine! Presenting 10 superhero movies you never knew were hitting theaters in 2020…..
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3
Director James Gunn has confirmed that the GOTG Vol. 2 will be coming out on the year 2020. No coming to the bad news, the present form of the Guardians was originally slated for a trilogy series. So after GOTG vol. 3, the team as we know it will probably disband. While it may be disheartening to see the Guardians ride off into the sunset, never to be seen again, we hope they can still amuse the hell out of us when they team up with the Avengers in Infinity War.
James Gunn has revealed a lot of interesting information pertaining to GOTG threequel. He said that the first two GOTG movies have put Star Lord at the center but GOTG Vol. 3 will focus more on Rocket Raccoon who is the best tactical mind according to Star Lord. Gunn said:
“As you know, the MCU is one way of processing these characters. 616 is a different one. We are going to learn more about where Rocket comes from in the coming sagas. It’s going to be a little different from the comics. We already know a lot about from where he came from. It’s a little bit more horrible than what it is in the comics when you come down to it. We will learn more about that.”
He made it clear that it is GOTG threequel which will set the stage for MCU future. He remarked:
“One of the things I’m doing with creating Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it will take place after the next two Avengers movies, and it will help to set up the next 10, 20 years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe. We’re going to be setting up new characters. It will be the last movie of this version of Guardians of the Galaxy.”
He has confirmed that while Volume 1 and Volume 2 have been Meredith’s song choices, her communication to Peter. In Volume 3, it will be Yondu communicating to Peter.
Flashpoint
The film was originally slated for a 2018 release date. But with too much meddling on account of WB Studios and switching of directors and core cast members, the date was pushed back to 2020. In the comics, the Flashpoint storyline involved Barry running back in time to save his mother. As a result, the alternate timeline turned Metropolis into a wasteland, Kal-El never became Superman, Bruce Wayne was dead and the Atlantean-Amazonian war threatened to engulf the entire planet in flames.
The movie is adapting elements of comic book storyline and Ezra Miller is pretty psyched about all the Thomas Wayne stuff. Here is what he said:
“Oh, hell yeah. I think he’s amazing, and I think he would fall right into what is becoming a very, very serious ensemble of actors. I’m so excited about Kiersey Clemons. I’m so excited about Billy Crudup. I just couldn’t be more stoked about the names involved so far. I think that the emotional arc of the Thomas Wayne stuff in Flashpoint is one of the illest parts. And to see that different manifestation of Batman and his whole different style.”
He added:
“And I love the reality that you have this universe that is so inverted from the one that we know. And this one factor remains the same, but in this flipped way. Batman is steady, but it’s going to be the result of a different side of the same tragedy with Thomas Wayne instead of Bruce, and that’s dope.”
Cyborg
Cyborg was one of the Highlights of Justice League. Ray Fisher was spot on as Victor Stone. The DC Slate had put Cyborg for an April 3rd, 2020 release date. But still, without a writer and director, Cyborg is stuck in development hell. Expect the date to be pushed further back.
Green Lantern Corps
After the debacle that was the 2011 Ryan Reynolds starrer Green Lantern movie, WB still has faith in the Green Guardian from outer space. The Green Lantern Corps, as the name suggests, will focus on not just Hal Jordan but the entire Green Lantern Corps. Kyle Rayner and John Stewart are also set to appear. David S. Goyer is penning the script and the release date for the movie is July 24th, 2020.
It is termed as Lethal Weapon in space. The name of actor Armie Hammer was being discussed, first, he said that he was in the running but then he totally ruled it out and said nobody called him for the role. Another guy who is after the role of Green Lantern is Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious). He said:
“Yeah, I would love to do it. Ya know I had a couple of meetings at Warner about it. I just think that they’re still trying to figure out what the move is. I would love to officially confirm but I can’t, and if they go in a different direction, I think they know what’s best for the movie, but the fans started this campaign and all I’ve done is made use of my social media to let folks know that I’m interested.”
G.I. Joe
The first two movies were more or less a success. G.I. Joe was one of the most rated action flicks of its year of release. The sequel was a moderate hit thanks to Bruce Willis and the franchise Viagra that is The Rock. The 2020 reboot will release on March 27th, 2020 and the story will be all new, barring the continuity from the previous two movies. Hasbro intends to start their own shared universe via the reboot just like the MCU and the DCEU.
Indian Jones Sequel
The kingdom of the Crystal Skull was not that much of a success. So it is still a miracle the Studio is still hopeful for a sequel. Chris Pratt was rumored to be playing a Young Indie in a reboot to the series. The rumors were untrue. Steven Spielberg will direct the movie with Harrison Ford reprising his role as the most flamboyant Archeologist ever. The movie is slated for a July 10th, 2020 release date.
Godzilla vs. King Kong
Forget Civil War, the social media wars are about to get to an all new high when this movie hits the theaters. Adam Wingard, the movie’s director, claims the ending will see a definite winner after the fight. Will it be Godzilla or will it be the King of Apes?? The Monster-Verse movie is about to hit the theaters on May 22nd, 2020.
Scooby
The most beloved animated myth busting crew will return to the Big Screens on May 15th, 2020. Although a reboot, the story is rumored to be taking a leaf from the original animated series of the 60s, including the famous opening music (Admit it. You just sang it in your mind didn’t you?!?!). The Mystery Machine is coming folks.
Micronauts
The story of Micronauts is relatively simple. A group of super-powered alien explorers finds that they are the size of action figures on Earth. They help protect the Earth from world destroying threats, chief amongst them being Baron Karza. Micronauts has been the part of childhood memories for many so it will be a real blast from the past when it releases on October 16th, 2020.
Nimona
Ah, Nimona! is a fantasy web series brought to the masses by none other than Noelle Stevenson. The story follows Nimona, a young sidekick as she is recruited by the supervillain Lord Ballister Blackheart to help stop the Institute of Law Enforcement and Heroics. The duo is pursued by Blackheart’s best friend and secret lover, Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin. 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to the series in 2015. The movie is slated for Valentine’s Day release on February 14th, 2020.
