The Witcher Season 2 Will Not Arrive Until Late 2021

More than anything else, Henry Cavill’s The Witcher Season 2 has to be his most anticipated project. Everyone loved the combination of brute force and charisma that Cavill brought while playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. With its opening, The Witcher has shown potential to become Netflix’s biggest original series of all time. But COVID-19 has pushed season 2 way back.

Netflix is Finally Making a Witcher Movie

According to a new report from Redanian Intelligence The Witcher Season 2 won’t finish filming until February 2021. It began filming in February earlier this year, and was supposed to complete production in August. But then COVID-19 brought things to a halt. Still, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich confirmed that they had managed to shoot enough material that would cover the first episode of Season 2. The initial filming was supposed to be around 6 months, but now it could take around 8 months as COVID-19 precautions have extended the filming period.

This means that Season 2 might not arrive fall 2021, if not later. There is a chance that Netflix might follow the same release pattern as they did with season 1, and make Season 2 available in December 2021. But we should be certain that the series won’t be pushed to 2022. Showrunner Hissrich has confirmed that she has a total of 7 seasons planned for the series. So, it could take more than a decade for Netflix to deliver these 7 seasons if they don’t pick up the pace. Hopefully, season 3 will arrive much quicker than season 2 since the Coronavirus won’t interfere. Let’s see how things go.

The Witcher Season 2 will see the return of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. The New actors added in Season 2 are – Yasen Atour (Young Wallender) as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) as Lambert, Thue Ersted Rasmussen (Fast and Furious 9) as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl) as Lydia and Mecia Simson as Francesca.
