When Season 7 of Game of Thrones started everyone was wondering how will Lord Peter Beylish aka Little Finger fit into the scheme of things. Initially, he underwhelmed one and all, but in the last two episodes, we have seen him coming into his own. The games have begun. With Jon not in Winterfell and Sansa alone at the top, he has a chance to continue his pursuit of power. Although one thing he never anticipated was Bran Stark and Arya Stark being alive and returning to Winterfell. Initially, he was taken aback by their return and the STARK reunion but he has started his manipulative games.
We saw how he manipulated Arya into uncovering a note that read the following:
Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King’s Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark.
This note was written by Sansa (forced by the Lannisters) when she was in King’s Landing. But, Arya doesn’t understand this and believes Sansa betrayed her father Ned Stark. This was the perfect ploy Little Finger needed to turn Arya and Sansa against each other. He has even manipulated Sansa into letting Brienne of Tarth travel South to King’s Landing.
Thus, Sansa in-charge of Winterfell has almost every dear one turned against her. If you thought Bran was a silver-lining, think again. He is pretty weird and useless now (emotionally). With Winter at the helm, it is everything Lord Baeylish needed, i.e, CHAOS. And we all know what Little Finger thinks of it.
Now let us come to the point, who is going to kill him and how is he going to die. Well, I as a fan am betting my money on Arya Stark to kill him (directly or indirectly). For this she won’t require her kick-ass fighting skills, she learned from Jaqen H’ghar. She is now a ruthless and highly trained assassin with a mission to take everyone down who wronged her family. And, we all know it all started with Little Finger (the characters in the show don’t know this.)
For killing Little Finger Arya won’t require her assassin skills. We saw how she killed Walder Frey and his entire family (false face and deception).
During her training with the Faceless Men, the Waif taught her a Game of Faces. Her training to become No One involved being able to tell lies without being caught. In the book A Feast For Crows, Arya has a conversation with the many faced gods and it goes like this.
A man does not need to be a wizard to know truth from falsehood, not if he has eyes. You need only learn to read a face’
‘A false smile and a true one may look alike, but they are as different as dusk from dawn.’
Arya nodded, though she was not certain that she could.
‘Then you can learn to see a lie… and once you do, no secret will be safe from you.’
This was the reason Arya was able to see through Sansa and her real desire of ruling Winterfell. She tells Sansa that in her heart Sansa doesn’t want Jon to return to Winterfell.
Now we are waiting for a conversation between Arya and Little Finger which will blow the whistle on the evil lord. So, we could see Arya truly avenging her father by killing Little Finger in his own game, i.e. DECEIT.
As fans what do you think, will Arya be the one to bring down Little Finger? Will her training with Jaqen H’ghar be enough to take something as evil as Baelish down once and for all? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
