The SPUMC has been developed around Venom and his adventures with Eddie Brock. The franchise has been trying to keep Venom isolated from Spidey. Sony wanted to make a movie without the hero and they have been consistently trying to do so. The most interesting, part, however, is that some have flipped the entire formula on its head by bringing Venom to the MCU in the post-credits scene of Venom 2. We think that the implications of this scene are far beyond the MCU, it even explains how Venom 2 connects to Spider-Man 3.
The post-credits scene starts off with Eddie and Venom lounging in a beach hotel room. They are watching TV when Venom and Eddie start talking. Venom says that he knows far beyond their home universe. This is because the symbiote hive mind is pervasive beyond the multiversal boundaries. So the different versions of Venom can share information with each other. As interesting as this revelation is, something even more sinister happens.
When Venom offers to share information with Eddie, the entire world glitches. Almost like one universe is clashing with the other. The effect of this is that Venom is thrown into the MCU. This is evidenced by the news broadcast on TV. We receive a replay of Far From Home’s after-credits scene from the perspective of Venom. It is quite peculiar. But what is even more strange is the fact that this Venom recognizes Peter Parker when he is unveiled on TV by J. Jonah Jameson.
Venom 2 connects to Spider-Man 3
This recognition comes in the form of two words, ”That Guy”. Implying that Venom has previous knowledge about Tom Holland’s character, or perhaps that Venom knows of the concept of Spider-Man in general from his hive mind. This is a brilliant move by Sony. Not only have they created one of the most engaging villain stories in a long time but they have also succeeded in harmonizing their standalone project with the media giant that is MCU. Truly a prudent action to have the character development happen in its own bubble before integration.
How would this play out? Is a question every fan has on their mind. The next step would be to wait for No Way Home’s second trailer which is expected to reveal the involvement of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the movie. We expect that Venom will also be a part of this trailer upon release. There is also a strong chance that there will be more than one Venom in the movie. You see, Venom talks about the symbiote hive mind and mentions how its knowledge is shared through Symbiotes across Universes. But where did he get knowledge about Spider-Man?
If we consider cinematic universes as the basis for the Multiverse then there is only one other version of Venom that could have passed on this information. We are talking about Topher Grace’s version from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. This is how Venom 2 connects to Spider-Man 3. Both the villains were communicating through telepathy and the symbiote hive mind. This creates two very interesting prospects for the future.
The Future of Venom
First of all, there is a high chance that the symbiote hive mind will take a more central role in the coming movies. The possibility arises due to Venom explicitly mentioning it in the post-credits scene. This means that we may also get a look at Knull soon. It is more likely that the Eternals will name-drop the character to set him up in the future. We say this because the King In Black storyline is too good to not adapt in live-action. The filmmakers know this and they are building their base for the future of Venom.
The second prospect is that there might be more than one Venom in No Way Home. We say this because a lot of the villains that previously died in other franchises have been resurrected to participate in No Way Home. So Topher Grace’s Venom may be also part of the roster. In fact, the whole movie could have a subplot about the confusion of the heroes between the good Venom and the Evil Venom. Won’t that be interesting to see?
