Tony Stark’s Nightmare Has Nothing to do With Avengers 4 or Infinity War?

Tony Stark Nightmare: 

Age of Ultron was a movie that had a lot riding upon it. The film had to live up to the hype of the first Avengers movie, be a great sequel, justify out one of the most intricate comic book stories of all time, and most importantly, set up an entire set of movies for Phase 3. Age of Ultron actually set up Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and apparently Avengers 4. It did not really live up to the big hype that surrounded the film as it was a little weak on the plot, but it did set up the future movies pretty well.

The vision that Scarlet Witch gave to Thor was a set up to Thor: Ragnarok and we have seen the conclusion to that vision. She brought back the horrendous memories of Black Widow which completely disoriented Nat. She gave Cap a thing he would have wished for post-World War II. But amongst the entire team, the biggest and most elaborate nightmare that Scarlet Witch gave was to Tony Stark. He was shown that he would lead to the end of the Avengers and he would not be able to save the people on Earth from another potential invasion.

Thor: Ragnarok was a pay-off to the vision that Thor got, so we could safely say that everything that Wanda put in the heads of the Avengers was either the past or the future of those individuals. But Marvel hasn’t really pay-ed off to the nightmare that Tony Stark got. Infinity War showed that Tony was unsuccessful in saving the snap, but it wasn’t necessarily a conclusion to what he saw. People still believe that Avengers 4 might explore that bad dream further, but according to Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff), it has nothing to do with Infinity War or Avengers 4.

Olsen recently appeared at a panel at ACE Comic-Con and there she revealed that the dream that Tony Stark saw had a totally different relevance than what we are expecting it to be. She, on the other hand, feels that the relevance of the nightmare was only limited to the events of Age of Ultron and not any further than that. She said:

“I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s what could have happened if Ultron took over, I’m not sure. I think it’s up to interpretation. It wasn’t something that I remember someone was saying that we’re going to go full circle to Infinity War — there wasn’t an Infinity War at that time [laughs]. But I think I always thought of it being what would happen if Ultron won. But I think it’s more interesting the way you’re thinking about it.”

This could be a right interpretation but we cannot just believe that the nightmare was only limited to Age of Ultron. It couldn’t just be a future possibility of an Outcome if Tony did not create Ultron. It had to be so much more than that. We saw the Avengers dead and the Chitauri Leviathans from the first Avengers movie were shown invading Earth again. That doesn’t have any connection with Ultron altogether. Also Avengers: Infinity War pay-ed off with a connection to the first Avengers film and it didn’t connect Age of Ultron to the larger scheme of things in any way.

So perhaps Avengers 4 will be the one that brings a major connection to Age of Ultron and it has to pay off on the nightmare that Tony Stark saw. Olsen here could be trying to derail us from expecting something big related to the matter, or it is very much possible that she doesn’t really know about the nightmare being concluded in Avengers 4. It is not hard to believe that as at the time of Age of Ultron, she actually forgot the name of the character Anthony Mackie plays in the MCU.
