Star Wars had a recent addition to its universe with Solo. Before this, the universe was expanded upon by JJ Abrams by announcing and showcasing a completely new trilogy that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It was at this time that the fans rejoiced. We were about to receive a whole new masterpiece come out of the doors of Disney and we were about to see Mark Hamill reprise his role as Luke Skywalker. The new movies started off with a bit of a hitch with nobody to fill the void after Darth Vader and the emperor’s demise. The last Jedi was an attempt to create a call to action for Rei but the impact of solo’s death falls flat on its face as fans yawn at the same old clichés.
A hero dying so that the new era can take over; we saw it with Obi-Wan Kenobi and now we see it happening to both solo and Luke Skywalker. Other than the deaths there was something else in the new trilogy that the fans really enjoyed. It was the new roller droid by the name of BB-8. Thanks to the little droid’s puppeteer we now know that the robot will be returning in episode IX. The tweet is reproduced below for your scrutiny.

JJ Abrams had also this to say about Carrie Fischer reprising her role as Princess Leia in Episode IX
“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” says Abrams. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
There are no other details for Episode IX but we can assume that we will also see the old R-2D-2 return to the big screen in the next installment. The last Jedi did showcase a small segment where Luke Skywalker and R-2/D-2 had their reunion but the scene was short lived and the old droid got very little attention compared to the new BB-8. The roller droid is Rei’s companion as R-2/D-2 was Luke’s. But now that Luke’s dead the old droid must die too, slowly.
The painful death of cinema is something all too real in this modern age of movies. As stories go, Star Wars is perhaps one of the best-established franchises in the industry. They are the franchise that brought the concept of a fanboy to the general public. It was only when Star Wars nerds appeared that comic nerds got a chance to prosper. The movie makers saw an opportunity that needed to be capitalized on. And Disney saw all of that because it is now Disney who owns the market of these sci-fi and superhero movies. They rule the fantasy genre in movies much like the elder scrolls rules the fantasy world in video games.
Episode IX is coming and Star Wars fans are expecting a powerful end to the new trilogy, a proper redemption story for Rei and the last Jedi. Other returning cast members for Star Wars: Episode IX includes Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant, who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.
The movie hits theatres on September 20, 2019. The movie will finally end the new trilogy and give us proper closure for the Star Wars universe. But is this the final story of the franchise. Most likely, no but we shall find out. Tell us what you think in the comments below.
