Finally, the DC fans had a big night when they saw the Flash entering the National city, jumping parallel dimensions and breaking time-space continuum. At the Paley fest, Greg Berlanti (the executive producer) stated that Flash is the perfect DC Superhero to come into Supergirl universe. He said “We needed to create a way to do it. We had to introduce Superman since you’ve heard about him and you’ve heard about who Supergirl is, but in the world of Arrow and Flash, they don’t exist. We introduced the Multiverse in Flash this year and that was always our way in”. Apparently, there are many Earths co-existing in the grand scheme of things. On Kara’s earth, there is a Central city but without Star Labs, Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, Iris West, Green Arrow, Black Canary etc.Following are the key comic-book references in the episode:

Flash vs Supergirl footrace:

supergirl flash

In the episode, we see both of them trying to outdo each other in a race, in the comic-world there have been many times of Superman racing against the Flash (not always Barry Allen).

World’s Finest vs Worlds’ Finest:

Supergirl and The Flash running side by side outdoors in the crossover episode.

In comic-world, there is just one world with all the DC superheroes, but on Supergirl TV universe, there is a multi-verse with many different earths vibrating at a particular point of time.

Tachyon device and Meta-human wing:

The Flash wearing the tachyon device on his chest in a scene from Superflash.

In the episode, Flash is wearing Tachyon device similar to the one donned by Reverse Flash in season 1. He further helped Team Kara to develop a way to keep meta-humans locked up so that they don’t need to take them to DEO every-time.

The Blur:

Promotional artwork featuring Supergirl against a blue background and The Flash in red.

Instead of calling him the Flash, they used “The Blur” which is what they called Clarke in “Smallville”.

Silver Banshee:

A still or scene from Silver Banshee.

In the episode, her look was termed as a “makeover” whereas in comics she became like that once her powers are manifested.
