The DC Extended Universe and Warner Bros. are well in the spotlight, courtesy of their latest release – Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It was a four-hour mini-series released exclusively on HBO Max. The movie hyped up their entire fan base and was well received by the audience and critics alike. Zack Snyder was even congratulated by other directors from Hollywood, such as the Russo Brothers that have directed many Marvel movies, including Marvel’s highest-grossing movie, Avengers: Endgame.
DC definitely plans a lot of their upcoming years and likes to keep their fans in a loop with what’s going on. Many projects do come to fruition but some of them don’t. Michael B. Jordan’s Static Shock is waiting to get a green light for its production. But there’s some unfortunate news for the fans. In a recent revelation, 2 of DC and Warner Bros.’s have been scrapped off.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that plans have been scrapped for director Ava Duvernay’s New Gods and director James Wan’s The Trench, a planned spin-off film of the 2018 Jason Momoa-starring Aquaman. Neither will move forward with Warner Bros and DC Films. The collective decision included,
“As part of our DC slate, some legacy development titles including New Gods and The Trench will not be moving forward. We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan, and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration during this process and look forward to our continued partnership with them on other DC stories. The projects will remain in their skillful hands if they were to move forward in the future.”
Ava Duvernay shared her reaction to the news on social media. She said,
“Tom, I loved writing NEW GODS with you. I’m upset that the saga of Barda, Scott, Granny, Highfather, and The Furies ends this way. Diving into Kirby’s Fourth World was the adventure of a lifetime. That can’t be taken away. Thank you for your friendship. And remember… #DarkseidIs.”

Tom King continued to reply to Ava Duvernay saying,
“Ava! I’m so incredibly proud of the work we did, it was such a joy seeing you bring your passion and talent to these characters. I really felt Kirby’s legacy was being honored here and I wish we could’ve kept going. That one Barda/Scott scene where…damn.”
It clearly shows how much fun both the people had and will collaborate with one another again in a blink of an eye.

Deadline added to the news, saying that The Trench was halted due to Wan’s packed schedule preparing for production on the Jason Momoa-led Aquaman 2, which is currently set to release in December 2022. It’s sad to see that these two movies will not come to fruition anytime soon. Even though they were far away from going into production, it’s still disheartening. Wan is still set to direct Jason Momoa’s upcoming Aquaman 2, and he seems to be a big player in the future of the DCEU as well.
